The Tower Guard are a military unit in Gondor in J. R. R. Tolkien's Legendarium. They are part of the permanent garrison of Minas Tirith; members include Beregond and Peregrin Took. They famously saw action in the Siege of Gondor defending the city alongside Gandalf. The Tower Guard of Gondor is also known as the Guard of the Citadel.
The armour of the Tower Guard of Gondor bears devices of tree, crown and stars.
The citadel guards are often confused with the Fountain guards. There are three elite corps that guard the white city of Minas Tirith. The first ones are the fountain guards, the second corps is composed of the citadel guards also known as tower guards and the last of the three corps is made up of royal guards, the lesser elite soldiers of Minas Tirith.
