Trương or Truong is a common Vietnamese surname formerly written as in Chữ Nôm. It is derived from the very common Chinese surname Zhang (Chinese: 张 or 張).

Origin and history[edit]

In Vietnam, Trương originally meant assistant to the regional chief or manager. The ancient tribes usually played a supporting role for royal generals.
