USS Daniel Inouye (DDG-118) will be an Template:Sclass- of the United States Navy. The ship will be named to honor former United States Senator Daniel Inouye of Hawaii.[2] Inouye was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in Tuscany, Italy, during World War II.[2]

Daniel Inouye will be the third of eight planned Flight IIA "technology insertion" ships, which will contain elements of the Flight III ships projected to begin with DDG-125.[citation needed]
