Eli Clare is an American poet, essayist, and activist. Clare is the author of three books and has been featured in several anthologies. [1]

Career

Clare attended Mills College where he earned his B.A. in Women's Studies.[2] He then went on to get his M.F.A. in Creative Writing at Goddard College.[3]

His book of poetry, The Marrow's Telling: Words in Motion was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award in 2008 and his book Brilliant Imperfection was awarded the Randy Shilts Award for Gay Nonfiction by the Publishing Triangle.[4][5] He work has appeared in the anthologies Troubling the Line: Trans and Genderqueer Poetics, Queer Crips: Disabled Gay Men and Their Stories, and Staring Back: The Disability Experience from the Inside Out.

Clare helped to organize the first ever Queerness and Disability Conference, which was held at San Francisco State University.[6][7] He also regularly gives speeches on topics including disability, queerness, race, and how they all intersect.
