[5]

Water is a very critical issue in Solapur Region. Hence, he chose to work on Irrigation Methods. Under guidance of Scientist Arun Deshpande.

According to his theory, Suction Method of Irrigation saves 1/10th of water and could be useful for poor farmers for better output and results. Suction Method of Irrigation requires only Brick and Pipe as essential tools. Thus, it's much cheaper than the traditional methods which require lot of instrumentation and electricity.

Suction Method of Irrigation[edit]

Suction Method of Irrigation is ancient Indian Irrigation Method which was used for surface irrigation. In ancient methods, farmers used to take help of porous pots, and these were placed adjacent to trees.

In new Suction Method of Irrigation, Brick is used as medium for supplying water to roots of trees. Brick is placed below 2 feet of soil near root.Roots absorb water with help of root pressures from brick. As root pressure is used, tree itself acts as pump, and water is provided to tree.

This method saves 1/10th of water as compared to other methods including Drip Irrigation and Sprinkler Irrigation.

Abhishek Suryawanshi requested the organizers for giving him a slot in the conference, but was refused as he was neither a post graduate nor a PhD student.

He requested to have a slot "just to show and represent his idea, so other scholars may pick up as their research subject and to receive their views thoughts".

Finally, the Government accepted his application and allotted a slot to him.

Juries and Judges were so impressed by his idea that they gave him a cash prize from their pocket as his entry was not among the entries competing for the cash-prize.

Vision[edit]

Inspiring Citizenship[edit]

Increasing numbers of people live in cities worldwide. The life and lifestyles of cities and its citizens create more and more stress – both for the environment and the citizens themselves. We experience the growing stress as both local crisis - of health, mobility, access, sufficiency, waste management, breakdown of services, dignity - and global problems - terrorism, pandemics, energy crisis, global warming.

The world needs ideas that will inspire better cities and better citizenship.

Pune is known for ideas worth spreading - from swaraj, quit India, women’s emancipation, swadeshi, super-computing to cell sciences and molecular genetics. Pune has led India - and even the world - and been an ideas' capital for centuries. Pune's thinkers and doers have inspired better citizenship and striven to design better cities.

TEDxPune will strive to collect together contemporary ideas worth spreading to inspire better cities and citizenship. It will seek out ideas that inspire people to live lives with purposes beyond oneself. It will seek to spread ideas that inspire better cities and citizenship.

Vision[edit]

Abhishek Suryawanshi considers Wikipedia as Global Platform for students to "share" their knowledge. Also, he believes Discussion/Talk Pages on Wikipedia lead to high level thinking and also enable like-minded people to work and share.

According to him, it's new revolution in 21st century, where knowledge is freely accessible equally in all parts of world. And it's going to unleash new culture, as it brings all people together, irrespective of age, sex and race, on same page for new information and also on Discussion Pages.

World is divided by borders, caste/religion etc. Internet is a great leveler. Knowledge brings people together. We, the human beings have special capacity of thinking, and since we have the ability to share knowledge, we must use it carefully. Wikipedia is a great (Global) platform to share knowledge.

Abhishek Suryawanshi feels Ambassadors Program is a great way to contribute to and serve Wikipedia.

“It is basically a voluntary initiative and the reason I joined the India Education Program is because it is an opportunity to share knowledge on a global platform. For instance, in the US, even small things such as streets are on Wikipedia and that is how people learn about them. In India, where we have so much of diversity and knowledge to share with the world, what needs to be taught is to put the knowledge on Wikipedia and share it with the world,” [11]
