Canon has announced their first products to utilize OLED technology. They are releasing a professional and a semi-professional camcorder. Both the pro XA-20 and XA-25 and the semi-pro VIXIA HF-G30 versions of their upcoming camcorders will include a three and a half inch OLED screen. Canon has been showing plans to use OLED technology in their DSLR camcorders since 2005. They acquired Tokki, a company that manufactures OLED equipment, and planned to make their own OLED screens. The OLED screens in their newest camcorders which are due out in July of 2013. "A joint venture consisting of Sony, Toshiba, and Hitachi's manufacturing muscle revealed the development of a 5.2-inch OLED smartphone screen featuring 1080p resolution and an ultra-sharp 423 pixels per inch (ppi)". The OLED screen boasts full HD and offers a RGBW pixel layout "which is a screen technology that offers an extra-white subpixel alongside that traditional red, green, and blue pixels" The addition of the extra-white subpixel increases screen brightness and battery life. The screen "stacks up nicely in comparison" to the two top smartphone manufacturers HTC and Samsung. There is currently no release date announced for this OLED screen but it is possible that the screen could be used in a future Sony smartphone or a device from another major manufacturer. In an interesting turn of events Korean police have raided Samsung's display offices because of claims from LG that Samsung is stealing their technology. I am sure more is to come soon about this event. AntiWill (talk) 19:04, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
