Misc. information about me:

In November 2010 I completed my doctoral thesis on "Britishness" and the development of national identity in Commonwealth countries in Oceania.

I also contribute to the French Wikipedia, where there is a relative lack of articles on Pacific countries (there are many important things to add regarding Australia and Fiji, for example).

An article that I created in the English Wikipedia has been mentioned and linked to by a major French newspaper.

A line that I wrote in my article Wantok Cup (The Cup is intended to be a thrice-a-year competition, to be held in July (twice) and September (once), as part of independence commemoration celebrations in the Solomons, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea, respectively.) was plagiarised by the main Papua New Guinean daily newspaper, the Post-Courier, on June 24, 2008.

On March 29, 2011, the newspaper Solomon Star plagiarised, almost in its entirety, the article Toswel Kaua, which I had entirely rewritten the previous month. As with the Post-Courier, this was a case of lifting text from Wikipedia without attributing it to me or to the encyclopedia.

Similarly, on July 8, 2009, a reporter for the Fiji Times, admitting that she got her information from Wikipedia, mentioned facts that I had added to articles: Marcus Stephen holding "several government portfolios from Home Affairs, Phosphate Royalties Trust, Police, Prisons and Emergency Services and then the Public Service", and Dame Carol Kidu having been "given a French award for her work and continued commitment to alleviate discrimination against physically and mentally disabled women, girls and children". You're welcome, Ms. Lavetiviti. But I hope you checked the sources I provided, rather than take my word for it.

I have written thirty-five DYK articles: Lamine Guèye (skier), Trischa Zorn, Pal Szekeres, Niue Star, Ruatara (chief), Mary Ann Müller, Kiribati–Cuba relations, Robert Van Lierop, Fiji and the United Nations, James Tanis, Ralph Regenvanu, Love Patrol, The Maori Merchant of Venice, Tofiri Kibuuka, Lango Sinkamba, Said Gomez, Rhodesia at the 1960 Summer Paralympics, Edward Maalouf, Marathon at the Paralympics, Babatunde Jose, George Ambo, Wara Wara, Law of Vanuatu, Andrew Nori, Ukraine at the Paralympics, Pete Gray (activist), Constituencies for French residents overseas, North Korea–South Korea football encounters, Essential National Industries (Employment) Decree 2011, Mojo Mathers, Fuahea Semi, 1924 Summer Deaflympics, Tonga at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, Ruby Thoma, and Vika Lusibaea.

I am currently ranked 378th out of 18,629,472 on the list of Wikipedians by number of articles created.

In addition to various edits, in the English Wikipedia I've started the following articles:

Question opening-closing.svg DID YOU KNOW?

A selection of my articles

I've also filled in the article on my home town, and created the "Relations in Oceania" section in the article "Foreign relations of Cuba", and the "Relations with the Pacific" section in the article "Foreign relations of Australia". I've added sections to a few other articles, such as the section on the 'Ice Curtain' border in the article on the Bering Strait, the section on Henry Reynolds' role in the Mabo judgement, the section on Aboriginal resistance in Australia, 1788-1850... I've contributed significantly to the article on the 2008 Summer Olympics torch relay; the section on media coverage, in particular, is almost entirely my work. I've updated and completed various articles, mainly relating to Oceania (such as Pacific Solution, Stolen Generations...). Most of the article on Miguel D'Escoto is by me. I've created list pages for newspapers in Pacific Islands countries (which I don't count in my list of articles above).

Things to do (amongst many others)
Create the following articles:

Complete the article on the History of Samoa.

Random comment: What a wonderful place is Wikipedia, where you can find encyclopediae in Latin, Tok Pisin, Klingon (until recently), and Scots!

My barnstars[edit]

Original Barnstar.png The Original Barnstar
For your amazing work including, among other things, countering systemic bias and having an apparent treasure trove of references for the contemporary articles that WP lacks. Here's to hoping you come back. Xavexgoem (talk) 18:51, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
