Stockport power station was a coal-fired power station sited in the town centre of Stockport, Greater Manchester, England.

History[edit]

The station was built on the site of the borough cattle market and alongside a gas works; it straddled the River Goyt with the main part of the station on the west bank of the river and the cooling towers on the eastern side. Coal was unloaded from railway wagons at Portwood about half a mile away. The station was decommissioned on 26 November 1976. The site is now occupied by car parks, a small substation remains on the site and some associated pipework and tunnel work can be seen in walls of the river.
