Kodomo no Kodomo (コドモのコドモ, lit. A Child's Child) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Akira Sasō. The story revolves around a playful 11-year-old girl named Haruna, who indulges in a game of kuttsukekko with a boy named Hiroyuki but thinks nothing of it until a sex education class informs her that they have had sex and that she has become pregnant.

Plot[edit]

Book One[edit]

Haruna is a playful 11-year-old girl. She has been friends with a quiet boy named Hiroyuki for since they were toddlers. After entering the fifth grade, the two meet one spring day at the park where they have always played Fox together. They indulge in a game of "kuttsukekko (くっつけっ子, lit. rubbing)" but think nothing of it. Haruna later realizes after a rather explicit sex education class that the two have had sex and later that she has become pregnant. The adults she tells do not believe her, so she decides to have the baby by herself. Around the same time, her sister Akimi's friend Tomoko discovers herself pregnant and decides to have an abortion.

Book Two[edit]

Haruna's baby bump starts to show. Her friends start to notice and she tells them it's a baby. They decide to help her. Some tell their parents and they talk about it at a PTA meeting, but laugh it off as children being naive. Her grandmother gets sick. Her teacher starts getting really stressed out, due to her pestering boyfriend and her workload. Haruna starts to gain weight and her classmates do research on pregnancy and childbirth for her. Hiroyuki hears the baby's heartbeat for the first time. The teacher gets hounded by parents and the school board about not being able to control her class.

Book Three[edit]

Haruna finds what looks like an old storehouse, and it seems like she found a place to have the baby at so no one will find out. Haruna's grandmother finds out about the baby and believes her. She gives her a charm for an easy birth. Then her grandmother has a heart attack and dies, three days before Haruna goes into labor. Her friends deliver the baby, a boy and name him Hajime (, Hajime, Beginning). The baby is healthy and Haruna nurses him. The children work to take care of the baby, with mixed results. Haruna hides the baby in the storehouse, going between school and home to care for the baby and nurse him. Her grandfather finds them, and is pleased when he sees that the baby is a boy. He announces it to the rest of the family but they believe that he is getting senile. Haruna loses her pregnancy weight. Haruna rescues her teacher from her stalker boyfriend and brings her to the baby hut. He tries to attack them, but her class shows up and he is taken away by police. Haruna brings the baby to class, shocking the teacher.

Haruna carries baby around town. Her grandfather and ? babysit him while she's on a class trip. The baby cries, and they bring her the baby and she feeds him while adults, including Haruna's mom, watch in shock. Haruna brings the baby home. The PTA finds out that Haruna really did have a baby. A DNA test confirms Hiroyuki as the father.

Several years later, the baby is now elementary school age and he and a friend finds the baby hut. Haruna is now a fashion model, and she shocks her boss/manager announcing she has to leave to go to a PTA meeting. Haruna and her sister visit the baby hut and an older Hiroyuki shows up. Father and son meet for the first time. Later, Haruna's sister has a baby. The baby is named Haruna.
