Yasuji Tanioka (谷岡 ヤスジ, Tanioka Yasuji, August 29, 1942 - June 14, 1999) was a Japanese manga artist. Considered one of the great masters of Japanese gag manga, his work is known for his crude and often sexually explicit style. His works featured a large number of characters, mostly animals in anthropomorphic form. One of his most popular inventions was "hana-hi bu". Hana-ji (literally "nose blood") is a visual device indicating sexual excitement, and bu is the sound of spurting blood.
The 1971 filmYasuji no Pornorama - Yatchimae!! (Japanese: ヤスジのポルノラマ やっちまえ!!) ヤスジのポルノラマ やっちまえ!! , was based on his manga.
In 1983 he received the Bungeishunjū Manga Award. He died of cancer in 1999.
