Howtos[edit]

Just my personal reference cheat sheet. The stuff I never remember when I need it, and which can be hard to dig out of the official Help pages.

Wikisourcecodequoting[edit]

<tt><nowiki> Put it Here </nowiki></tt>
Now try and figure out the wikisource for that line without looking! :-)
This is probably way outdated. See next item for a modern template style:

Quoting larger blocks of Wiki-Markup[edit]

::{{pre2|style=padding:0.2em|<nowiki>
Then just
  put it all
    here
(colons for indention are optional, of course)
</nowiki>}}

Displaying the </nowiki> tag in these howtos[edit]

The tag will just render as text if there isn't an "open" <nowiki> tag pending.
To show it after a <nowiki> tag therefore requires to:
  1. suspend the "nowiki-state"
  2. put the </nowiki> text
  3. resume the "nowiki-state"
Code: </nowiki></nowiki><nowiki>

The {{talkquote|<...>}} template looks promising!

Citation Stuff[edit]

Reference Decluttering[edit]

Footnotes belong at the foot of the document - and that goes for markup source as well!
This is how it's done:
Some Fact.<ref name="Ref One"/>
And then at the bottom the == References == section:
{{reflist|refs=

<ref name="Ref One">
  {{cite web
    | last       =
    | first      =
    | title      = Whatever It's Called
    | date       =
    | website    =
    | publisher  =
    | url        = http://www.hatev.er.URL.it's.at
    | accessdate =
  }}
</ref>

}}
Consult Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Avoiding_clutter for further details.
TAN: The URL is *not* the most important information in quoting a source. It should be close to the end of the ref block.

Citing a Dictionary[edit]

<ref>
{{cite encyclopedia
  | dictionary = Webster's Third New International Dictionary of the English Language
  | title = <lemma in dictionary here>
  | edition =
  | year = 1986
  | publisher = Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc.
  | volume = I (A-G)
  | isbn = 0-85229-503-0
}}
</ref>

Multiples[edit]

Using different pages of the same work in different citations

<ref>{{...}}</ref>{{rp|page=381}}

Geohack / Coord[edit]

{{Coord|57|18|22|N|4|27|32|W|dim:100|display=title}}
{{Coord|44.112|N|87.913|W|dim:10km|display=title}}
{{Coord|44.112|-87.913|display=title}}
"dim": viewing diameter (for a sane zoom level). Default in m
