Written Test[edit]

Please leave your response to each question where indicated.

  1. What is consensus, and how does it apply to Wikipedia policies?
A: Simply, the way decisions are made. It is not a vote, but a decision made taking all editor's thoughts(/concerns) into account. 16:30, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
  2. You revert something thinking it's vandalism, but you get a rather irate reply on your talk page: "That's not vandalism! This is a serious fact covered my many research articles! How dare you accuse me of (insert type of vandalism here, as well as more complaints)!" You check, and sure enough, he's right. What do you do?
A: I'd revert my own edit then leave a polite "sorry" note on their talk. 16:30, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
  3. You add a PROD tag to an article as it doesn't seem to be notable, but the article gets blanked entirely by the author (who was the only substantial contributor to the article). What should you do?
    A: I would CSD G7 it. 16:30, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
  4. You nominate an article for speedy deletion as a copyright violation. Two minutes later, the CSD tag was removed by the page creator. What should you do?
A: Check first. If a copyvio, I would re-add the notice and warn them with one of these: 1, 2, 3 or 4, depending on how many times this has happened. If not, leave a polite "sorry" note on their talk. 16:30, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
  5. I found an image on a website of a person that could be really useful in an article I'm writing about them. The website says that the image has been released into the public domain, so what should I do to upload it to Wikipedia?
A: First I would check if it actually is public domain. If so, I would upload it using a {{PD-release}} tag. 16:30, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
  6. Name the three "core content policies" on Wikipedia and what they mean.
A: First, Neutral point of view — no bias, neutral view on things. Second, Verifiability — everything must have a reliable source. Finally, No original research — original research is where no reliable source exists. 16:30, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
  7. You want to upload an image under a claim of fair use. Can you upload the image to Wikimedia Commons? Why or why not?
A: Commons is for free images only. Fair use would have to go onto Wikipedia with a good rationale. So, no. 16:30, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
  8. If I wrote a template "foo" with this code, what would be displayed when I called it like this: {{subst:foo|article=Lorem Ipsum|Thanks again!}}?
    Thanks for helping with [[{{{article|that article}}}]]! It's a great help. {{{1|}}} <includeonly>~~</includeonly>~~
    A:Thanks for helping with Lorem Ipsum! It's a great help. Thanks again! TAP 16:30, 18 June 2012 (UTC) [ 16:30, 18 June 2012 (UTC) ]
  9. A user has been behaving really badly on Wikipedia. Talking to the user about the issue does not solve the problem. What should you do?
A: If they've had lots of warnings; AN/I or AIV. AIV if it's just vandalism, AN/I if a competence issue/bad behaviour. 16:30, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
  10. What do you wish to become on Wikipedia in the future? Probably an administrator? Or just a regular productive editor?
A: I'd try for administrator in about a year. Until then, a regular productive editor. Going for admin before a year/10/11 months would be bad. 16:30, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
