Phil Sbarbaro, Senior Counsel with Denuo,Inc., has a wealth of experience specializing in corporate, commercial and Internet litigation.

Early Career[edit]

Mr. Sbarbaro was the former outside General Counsel as well as Chief Litigation Counsel for Network Solutions (NSI), a registry of domain names on the Internet (.com, .net, .org, .edu, .us). He has overseen or appeared as Counsel in 229 cases brought against Network Solutions by various trademark owners and domain name holders around the world and has been involved with over 1,000 similar domain name-trademark disputes. Following the acquisition of NSI by VeriSign, Inc. Mr. Sbarbaro led the negotiations with the Department of Commerce regarding the formation of the US Government’s statement of primary ownership of the Internet core functions; led the negotiations resulting in the amendment of the Cooperative Agreement Between NSI; as well as the U.S. Government where the formation of ARIN and ICANN were created.

A former senior trial attorney with the Justice Department, Tax Division, Office of Special Litigation in Washington, D.C. and a former Enforcement Division attorney from the Securities and Exchange Commission, Mr. Sbarbaro has appeared in over 40 federal district courts and courts of appeal around the country. He has conducted internal corporate investigations, bid protests, and federal agency contract disputes before the United States Department of Energy, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, and the United States Department of Labor. He also has been appointed as a special administrator by the D.C. Superior Court. He has served as a member of the Advisory Board of the Bureau of National Affairs Electronic Information Policy & Law Report.


In addition to a Master of Laws in Securities Regulation from Georgetown University, Mr. Sbarbaro holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from California Western School of Law in San Diego, California, an M.B.A. from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois and a B.S. in Economics and Accounting from Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts. He is a member of the Bars of California, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Mr. Sbarbaro is also a nationally-ranked sabre fencer – where strategy and speed are paramount.
