Alona López Gucela (single) was born and raised in Liloan, Southern Leyte. She trace her family origin to Basilio López of Iloilo. She stayed in the town of Liloan in Southern Leyte with her grandparents, Arsenia & Simeon Lopez, while her parents, Julieta N. Crisostomo and Joven E. Crisostomo, were working in Padre Burgos, So. Leyte as Senior Pastors of Hosanna Chapel Philippines.
Alona took her elementary education in Himay-Angan Elementary school where she received a Valedictorian Award and her high school education in Himay-Angan National High School where she also received a Valedictorian Award. She was a very active student, too. She joined almost all the extra-curricular activities in her schools. Singing contests, declamation contests, sports, and even the school's Drum and Bugle Corps. (DBC) where she was one of the Band Majorette in high school.
Alona, with the help of her parents, held Bible Studies in various places in Southern Leyte. She also conducted feedings to the street kids, Christian concerts with the Youth Ministry of their church, and healing crusades together with other Pastors and Missionaries from other countries.
In 2003, Alona and her kids, Shadrach, Asahel Jeshaiah, and Jedidaiah, was abandoned by her husband, Jerome Ybanez Quinones. Jerome's reason of leaving them was because he didn't love them anymore. Jerome never worked to earn money for their food, clothing, for his children's education, and even for other household expenses. That time, Shadrach, their eldest son, was still grade 2; Asahel Jeshaiah, kindergarten; and Jedidaiah was still a baby. Alona and her family waited and searched for Jerome. She found Jerome somewhere in the province of Pampanga, but, Jerome refused to go with her. Since then, She and her family never heard anything about Jerome anymore. So, they decided to move on and forget Jerome.
Alona's experience with the man who abandoned them didn't kept her from being happy. She considered everything that happened to her was a blessing. Alona Lopez Gucela married an American national last 2007 and became Alona Gucela Weintraub.
