Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Your recent filmography additions[edit]

I noticed that you have been editing a few of the movie stars and such that are on my watchlist. I'm generally curious as to what has been changed or updated so I view the changes. I noticed that you have been adding filmographies which is great but according to the Manual of Style for Wikipedia, titles of films and television series should be in italics. I've changed a couple when I noticed you put in the filmography but it would help streamline things if they were in italics when you added them. Welcome to the Wiki! Dismas 04:22, 14 July 2005 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you again, but I thought I'd point out that italics are used for names of magazines as well. Dismas 02:53, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

K.D. Aubert[edit]

Courtkittie said: Hi, I noticed your contributions to the K.D. Aubert article, and you took out part of Nick Cannon's song "Your Pops Don't like (I really don't like this dude)" because you believed it to be vandalism. I just wanted to let you know it's actually the name of the full song, but I think it's better the way you left it, because it's more known for the short title.

You're right. The Nick Cannon song was with the right title there, and I realized that. My initial intention was to delete the parenthesis part (which was in lower case) and replace it in toggle case. But the fact that I forgot to replace it in toggle case, if you think it looks better, is of no consequence, in that case. Cool. I figure, if you want to have the last say on it, that's fine with me. It was my (unconscious) mistake, anyway.

All the best. Bobo192|Edits

Thanks[edit]

Dear Courtkittie,

Thank you for the welcome message. I work in the Portuguese Wikipedia too. My english is very poorly (like you can see), so, my contributions here will not be too great.

Unfaithful (film)[edit]

Is there some particular reason why you reverted my edit? If you haven't noticed, many movie and TV articles have an expanded summary, tagged with {{spoiler}} to warn readers (see Pulp Fiction and The Terminator for a couple of examples). Thanks. Links to incorrect articles or disambiguation pages[edit]

I noticed that you have created filmographies on several articles for actors and actresses, such as Taryn Manning and Terrence Dashon Howard. However, many of the wikilinks you inserted lead to disambiguation pages, or in some cases the wrong articles completely. Please check where the links you inserted lead to, disambiguate them if they lead to the wrong place (for example, Dandelion instead of Dandelion, which leads to the flower), and check if the film isn't already listed under a different name. See Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links for more information. Thanks! Extraordinary Machine 19:57, 13 August 2005 (UTC)

Query[edit]

First off, a belated thanks for your welcoming message, some time in June-July I think. I've only been contributing for a couple of months now, so please forgive this naive question, as you would appear to be someone in the know: how do I count the number of edits I've made? I gather there is some tool to do this, but I'm damned if I can find it. Thanks!--Xiphon 17:51, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

Never mind, I found Kates tool, thanks anyway--Xiphon

Copyright violation images[edit]

Hi, I see you updated the Gemma Word image listing on the copyright violations page so all the links work. That's good. Another thing you should do when you fill these out is go to the image page itself and add an image copyright violation tag so that it's marked as a potential copyright problem there. If you go check that page out and hit edit you can see the code for how that's done. Then you remove any page listed there as using that image, which you already did so that's good. Just thought you should know for future reference. DreamGuy 04:23, August 27, 2005 (UTC)

Image:Amberbenson01.jpg[edit]

Hi. You tagged this {{promophoto}} but you did not indicate a source which is a requirement of this tag. If you do not quickly provide the source, the image can be deleted at any time. RedWolf 04:13, 24 September 2005 (UTC)

Image Copyright Problem RE: Image:CleaDuVall.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:CleaDuVall.jpg. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law. We need you to specify two things on the image description page:

  • The copyright holder, and
  • The copyright status

The copyright holder is usually the creator. If the creator was paid to make this image, then their employer may be the copyright holder. If several people collaborated, then there may be more than one copyright holder. If you created this image, then you are the copyright holder.

Because of the large number of images on Wikipedia, we've sorted them using image copyright tags. Just find the right tag corresponding to the copyright status of this image, and paste it onto the image description page like this: {{TAGHERE}}.

There are 3 basic ways to licence an image on Wikipedia:

  • The copyright holder gets the best protection of his work by licencing their work under an open content license like the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence. If you have the express permission of the copyright holder to licence their work under the above licence, use the image copyright tag: {{cc-by-sa-2.5}}. The GNU Free Documentation License is another choice for licencing one's work. Again, if you have the express permission of the copyright holder, use the tag: {{GFDL}}.
  • The copyright holder can also release his work into the public domain, see here for images released into the public domain.
    • Images from certain sources are automatically release into the Public Domain. This is true for most governments like the federal United States government. (See here for images from the government of the USA and here for other governments) However not all governments release their work into the public domain, such as the UK government (See herefor images from the UK government). Non-free licence governments are listed here.
  • Also, in some cases, an image is copyrighted but allowed on Wikipedia because of Fair Use. To see if this image qualifies and then how to tag it, see Wikipedia:Fair use.

For any other sources of for more information see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Please remember that if you don't tag your images, they will be deleted.

P.S. If you have uploaded other images without including copyright tags, please go back and tag them. Also, please tag all images that you upload in the future.

If you have any questions, just leave a message on my talk page. Thanks again. Extraordinary Machine 14:35, 25 September 2005 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:SurrealTrishelle.jpg[edit]

Warning sign
This image may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:SurrealTrishelle.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --OrphanBot 07:19, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:DinaMeyerBirds.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:DinaMeyerBirds.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. Johnleemk | Talk 16:11, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:SeriousCourtneypink.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:SeriousCourtneypink.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Unspecified source for Image:HenryCavill.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:HenryCavill.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL.

Orphaned non-free image (Image:DeucesWildMen.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:DeucesWildMen.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 03:14, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Image:JordanLadd.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:JordanLadd.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — pd_THOR | =/\= | 04:08, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:TheCOOLERposter.jpg)[edit]

Nuvola apps important blue.svg Thanks for uploading Image:TheCOOLERposter.jpg.

Fair use rationale for Image:PrettyPersuasion2.jpg[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:PrettyPersuasion2.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sherool (talk) 20:33, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:MurrayTable.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:MurrayTable.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it may be deleted within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mosmof (talk) 14:27, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

WP:FILMS Questionnaire[edit]

As a member of WikiProject Films, you are invited to take part in the project's first questionnaire. It is intended to gauge your participation and views on the project. At the conclusion of the questionnaire, the project's coordinators will use the gathered feedback to find new ways to improve the project and reach out to potential members. The results of the questionnaire will be published in next month's newsletter. If you know of any editors who have edited film articles in the past, please invite them to take part in the questionnaire. Please stop by and take a few minutes to answer the questions so that we can continue to improve our project. Happy editing!

ArbCom elections are now open![edit]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
