Canadian R&B Music
Canadian R&B Music, has been an evolving musical genre in Canada for many decades. Unlike its American counterparts, south of the border. Canadian R&B music is still relatively undeveloped and well-recognized, like other musical genres in the nation. Even such as its Canadian Hip Hop contemporaries, which has grown in the past few years, due to frontrunners, such as Drake,K'naan and Kardinal Offishall, to name a few.
Canadian R&B has been around as long as the genre has been in existence, but it did not really form a scene in Canada really until the late 1980s and early 1990s. With Artists such as, Deborah Cox (being the first major success outside Canada) during the mid-1990s, Tamia, Jully Black, Glenn Lewis, Remy Shand, In Essence, Dru, Melanie Durrant, Desi Dilauro, Esthero, Nelly Furtado and Melanie Fiona to name a few all achieving great success, and most recently with the rise of the new wave of R&B top runners such as The Weeknd, whose iconic alternative, PBR&B sound has made him a staple of the 2010s in the genre and ushered in a new sound to the genre popular in music today.
