Dhivehi Observer is a non-commercial news website on the Maldives that began publications in early 2004, with the prime objective of providing information and news about the country and engage the public, in a campaign to challenge the 25 year old dictatorship of Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
The website, with more than 2000 active contributing members communicating principally via email, MSN Chat, Skype was instrumental in bringing democracy to this small island nation.
