The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Lego Rock Band received mixed to favorable reviews.[25][26] 1UP.com reviewer Justin Haywald praised the game's Rock Power Challenges and humorous cinematics, but criticized some of the song selections, specifically noting "Real Wild Child" by Everlife as being "thoroughly revolting" and desribing "Thunder" by Boys Like Girls as "narcolepsy-inducing".[1] Tom Mc Shea of GameSpot felt that the setlist was eclectic and "works well because there are just enough good songs to hide the less-than-thrilling ones".[10] In his review for IGN, Jack DeVries praised the game's visuals, specifically dancers and moving visuals in the background of the stages and called the game's presentation "adorable", but was critical of the short setlist compared to Rock Band 2 and Band Hero.[16]

The Wii version of the game was less well received. Mc Shea criticized the game's lack of support for downloadable content, saying players are "stuck with only 45 songs on the disc".[11] DeVries disliked the lack of DLC support, and also commented on other limitations in the Wii version, such as the graphics being poorly done "even for a Wii title", and the inability to export the game's songs.[17] He compared the Wii version to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, saying that it is a "total ripoff" for Wii owners, who are charged the same price for the game.[17]

Lego Rock Band was nominated for the "Best Family Game" Interactive Achievement Award from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, but it lost to The Beatles: Rock Band. The nominees also included Guitar Hero 5, Wii Fit Plus, and Wii Sports Resort.[28]
