History[edit]

The roots of Advanced Study Room go back to ~2002-2006. The ASR project is owned since end of June 2016 soley by Guillaume Douron (Bourg-de-Péage / France, Hangzhou / China). It has its own, monthly league system. The ASR league runs with five league divisions online.

ASR League[edit]

ASR League design (2016-2017).

The ASR league fills a niche in the amateur Go playing community of Western World. It is essentially part of the ASR = Advanced Study Room. Over the years (since 2002) some enthusiastically Go players from around the globe have created a highly competitive system.

The league is accessible to all levels of abilities (e.g. beginners, advanced).

The ASR league is a monthly tournament for players of all levels who want to play serious games and improve in their Go studies. The league provides a pyramid structure of so called "league divisions" from alpha at the top to delta at the bottom. The placement league division is the entry point.

The four plus one league divisions (from top) are:

  • alpha
  • beta
  • gamma
  • delta
  • placement (basic = entry)

New players who registrate first time on the official website with their KGS user name (of Online Go server goKGS) are being pooled unranked in the placement division. At least four (4) games must be played per month to get a fixed rank within one of the leagues.

Online Go servers[edit]

The ASR community runs its own (chat & gaming) room on the Westener GO server goKGS (USA). It also has a group channel on North American Go server OGS (Online Go server).
