Islam and the Future of Tolerance: A Dialogue is an upcoming book which is a collaboration between The New York Times Best Selling American author Sam Harris and British activist Maajid Nawaz. It is expected to be published in October 2015.
The book is in dialogue format, and features an exchange between an atheist and critic of religion, Sam Harris, and an Islamist-turned-liberal activist Maajid Nawaz. Harris argues that the doctrines of Islam are dangerous while Nawaz defends Islam by arguing that those dangerous doctrine have been circumvented by the tradition. Nawaz further argues that like any other religion, Islam is open to reform and will find its place in a secular world.
The book is published with the explicit purpose of furthering difficult conversations about Islam without "devolving into bigotry or caricature". The book also explores the differences between the religion of Islam and the ideology of Islamism.
