"Smell the Roses" is a song written by Roger Waters for his fourth studio album, Is This the Life We Really Want?. It was placed as the ninth track on the record. It was also released as the album's first single, in April 2017.

Background[edit]

In early January 2017 Waters uploaded a 12-second video of him working in the studio, playing bass to a then-unidentified track[1].

Composition[edit]

"Smell the Roses" is a progressive rock song with a sound reminiscent of Pink Floyd's 1970s albums Animals and Wish You Were Here.
