Gayane Vardanovna Avetyan (Гаяне Аветян) is an Armenian born Russian Freelance Journalist and Comedian from the Russian City of Nizhny Novgorod (Нижний Новгород), living in the Avtozavodsky City District made famous for its Lada car manufacturing plants[1]. Since 2014 she has had her own Comedy TV show On-liner broadcast upon Nizhny Novgorod's state TV channel NNTV ННТВ.

Avetyan is perhaps best know for her performances in the Russian TV talent show Comedy Battle(Comedy Баттл) shown on the popular TV channel TNT (ТНТ)[2][3].



Early Life

Avetyan was born in the Armenian city of Vanadzor on the 15th of September 1990. She is the daughter of Goar and Vardan Avetyan and the younger sister of two brothers Narek and Sergey Avetyan all of whom immigrated to Nizhny Novgorod from Armenia in the late 90's when Nizhny Novgorod opened to foreigners[4]. Gayane was raised in the Avtozavodsky District of the city. Avetyan's parents divorced when Gayane was a teenager.

As a child Avetyan loved the Creative Arts and got into performing whilst in her first year of University at UNN performing in a KVN Group set up with her friend and Co-Performer Guram Amaryan, who has since gone on to perform all over the former Soviet Union, from Sochi to Kiev.

Career

Comedy Battle

In February 2014 Avetyan auditioned along with her co-performer Guram Amaryan for the Russian televised comic competition Comedy Баттл. As a duo act the pair where invited to a second audition before being accepted to perform in the televised first round in Moscow.

Their first sketch was used in the promotion of the TV series in advertising on the (ТНТ) channel before the episode of Comedy Баттл Суперсезон containing their performance. It got 2 yeses from the judges, Garik Martirosyan Pavel Volya and Sergey Svetlakov allowing them to continue to the next round, where a risky performance saw them knocked out of the competition [5].

Stand Up

Following the competition Avetyan focused upon the Stand Up form of Comedy realizing the Comedy was moving away from the traditional KVN format to a more Western form of the art. She helped set up Stand-up Nizhny Novgorod with freinds met from her experience at Comedy Battle. It was later targeted by Comedy Club Russia as an arm to accessing a new market in Nizhny Novgorod.

As the group was being formed Gayane hit the headlines for a unique performance alongside her (then to be) husband translation his performance into Russian from English earning rave reviews in local press.

On-liner

After graduating from the school of Journalism at UNN Gayane started working as the host of the weekly TV show Онлайнер On-liner . The show is aired on NNTV ННТВ. As well as hosting the Comedy Series Avetyan was also in charge of script writing and sourcing materials for the show.

Gorky TV

Between the years of 2013 and 2015 Avetyan was a news reported for the Nizhny Novgorod based Online news Channel Gorky TV reporting on a variety of local and national news[6].

Freelance Accreditation's

Avetyan also acts as a freelance jouranlist for the Russian Language Publications Russian Gap and Pulse UK as well as many other Nizhny Novgorod based publications. She is also heavily involved in PR work for Comedy Club Russia and the Moscow based hairdressing franchise Chop Chop

Personal Life

After a 1 year engagement Avetyan married the British My Utility Genius Marketing Manager David Wiggins on the 26th of July 2014. After the couple met on the 26th of July 2013 in the English City of Preston whilst they both studied at the University of Central Lancashire. In February 2015 the couple moved to London to escape the Russian Economic Crisis.

Avetyan is a devote Armenian Apostolic Christian.
