Gerry Portales Yabes, (born on 18 October, 1983 in Ilagan, Isabela) is a Wikipedian contributor since 2005. He contributes in the English Wikipedia of any Philippines-related articles.[1] He is a graduate of two-year Diploma in Information Technology in 2003 at STI Ilagan. He was a recipient of La Verdad Christian College's full-grant scholarship program in 2009.


Elementary Schools[edit]

Yabes attended elementary education in Don Vicente Lopez Elementary School at Baliwagan, San Enrique, Negros Occidental province in the year 1990 from Grades 1 to 3. Later in 1994, when his family moved back to Isabela province, he continued his elementary education in Casilagan Elementary School at Casilagan, Ilagan, Isabela. He finished Grades 4 to 6 in Casilagan Elementary School and graduated in the year 1997.

High School[edit]

Yabes studied high school education in Isabela National High School from school years 1997 to 2001. He belongs to one of the Batch Matatag as well as one of the millennium graduates of the said high school. He graduated high school in 2001.


In 2001, Yabes took up a two-year diploma in information technology. He is an IT graduate of STI Ilagan in 2003. Later in 2009, he was one of the recipients of full-grant scholarship of La Verdad Christian College for a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting. While working, he studies Bachelor of Science in Psychology via online through AMA Online University.


He speaks and writes English and Spanish languages along with Ilocano and Filipino. During his elementary years, he speaks Ilonggo which was later forgotten when his family moved back to Isabela province in 1994. Currently, he is doing a self-study in Spanish, language. His interest to learn Spanish started since high school years.

Social Media[edit]


Yabes joined Facebook on 24 March 2007. He claims as he is the first Facebook user in the Philippines. He is currently the sole admin of Facebook groups and pages and related to 1,489 municipalities, 145 cities, 81 provinces and 18 regions of the Philippines in the said social media giant. His Facebook Page currently has over 500 likes.

Currently, he reports Facebook accounts and pages that violate Facebook's standard community terms such as fake names, malicious posts from pages, etc.


Yabes joined Instagram recently which is connected to his Facebook page. He currently upload photos regularly.


He joined Google using a personalized domain name ""[2] on 20 May 2011. At the moment, he is currently creating Google+ Communities similar to Facebook groups and pages. His Google+ account is connected to his personal domain.


His twitter account was created on 8 March 2008. As of now, he has more than a thousand followers and tweeted more than 15 thousand.


Currently, he is maintaining a YouTube channel for various topics.


Yabes is currently employed as Quality Analyst in Ortigas Center, Pasig City in Metro Manila since 2017. He wanted to be one of the bilingual agents in the future. His career in BPO industry started at Alorica Philippines in Makati in 2017.


Yabes contributes in the English Wikipedia majority in Philippine-related articles since 2 November 2005. His contributions can be accessed by clicking the link. He does a lot of things on Wikipedia by adding information, create articles, detect spelling errors, enrich editing, include trivia, fight vandalism, making lists, nominate deletions, providing sources, remove plagiarism, upload logos and photos and verify citations.
