My name is Ian Gilfillan, and I live in Cape Town, South Africa. I've been editing Wikipedia since I first heard about it and created this account in February 2003. I occasionally tinker on the Afrikaans wikipedia, hopefully without causing too much damage, and helped setup and served on the founding Wikimedia ZA board, and am on the current board.

I am passionate about the dream of seeing Wikipedias in each person's mother tongue, especially the Southern African languages.

You can get a pretty good idea of my interests by looking at the articles to which I've contributed - mostly South African interest.

I also have a blog, quite often blogging about Wikimedia-related topics, trying hard not to wax lyrical about the old days.

I am employed part-time by the MariaDB Foundation. None of my edits are paid for by my employer.
