Go Get a Roomie is the name of a Webcomic published by internet based artist Chloé C. The comic was started on May 8, 2010 and is presently ongoing. The comic is focused as a comedy, with several romantic and dramatic sub plots.
Story[edit]
Go Get a Roomie focuses primarily on a free-spirited and highly sexual young woman who uses the name Roomie. By her namesake, Roomie gets by without apparent income by staying with friends and partners. She is juxtaposed by the co-star of the strip, Lillian. The comic features a wide and diverse cast of characters. The tone of the story is overtly sexual, but cannot be considered pornographic in nature. The story presently does not have any clear antagonist, and focuses on the relationships between the characters.
Art Style[edit]
Most strips are illustrated using little color, and depending on skillful line-work and shading to convey mood and character expression. The strips are normally presented in a traditional four panel horizontal arrangement. Some special comics, such as Lillian's dreams, will take a much less confined style.
Characters[edit]
- Roomie is the main character of the strip. Her exact age is not discussed, but she appears to be in her early to mid twenties. Roomie is characterized as confident, impulsive, free-spirited, and sexually promiscuous. Roomie is highly extroverted and energetic. The artist describes her by saying "The perky life-lover hippie.Most often seen in bars. if not, she’s likely to be in your house, already making herself comfy."
- Lillian is the second main character of the story. She is commonly referred to by Roomie as "Lazy Tyke," or "L.T." Intended as a juxtaposition to roomie, Lillian is a highly introverted and openly lazy woman. Lillian spends a lot of time in the story sleeping, allowing the artist to freely explore her dreams. Lillian's dreams are portrayed as a surreal but lucid environment in which she holds a great deal of control. Characters in the dream are often characters seen in the strip placed in different roles.
- Richard is a young male character who is openly sexually submissive. He wears a collar around his neck and a T-shirt embellished simply with the word "Bitch".
- Ramona is the twin sister to Richard. She is a proudly and openly dominant in her bisexuality.
- Mr. Kitteh is a black cat that lives with Lillian. Despite the name "Mr. Kitteh" she is actually female. Whether she has superpowers or plans for global domination have presently not been explored by the author.
Publication[edit]
The webcomic was started on May 8, 2010 exclusively as a self supported web page. After growing in popularity, the author held a highly successful Kickstarter campaign to create a book. After collecting over $90,000 from her $20,000 goal, the author began working on her first book, which is expected to be 175 pages long and printed in full color. The campaign was supported entirely by fans of the comic. Presently there is no projected completion date.
