Wheatley Vodka is a craft vodka brand made by the Sazerac Company at the Buffalo Trace Distillery using a recipe crafted from its namesake, Buffalo Trace Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley. The product launched in 2014 and is made from a grain combination of North Dakota soft red winter wheat and corn. The two grains are distilled seven times separately, married, then distilled three more times for the products 10-times distilled labeling[1]. It is bottled at 82 proof.

Wheatley Vodka was Buffalo Trace Distillery's first U.S. craft vodka release on the tail end of experiments in the vodka category like the limited edition, high-end European release of CLIX vodka in 2013[2].

History[edit][edit]

After a series of experiments with vodka, the Buffalo Trace Distillery launched Wheatley Vodka in 2014. The brand was rolled out only to limited markets. It's marketing began with word-of-mouth and bartender marketing programs, as well as a social media presence. It launched a full website and enhanced bartender program in 2018[3]. It even received recommendations from the storied Van Winkle bourbon family of Kentucky, whose brands are also distilled at the Buffalo Trace Distillery. Julian Van Winkle endorsed the brand to a Saveur reporter in 2017[4]. In 2018, it was chosen to replace rival Tito's as the vodka of choice served on United Airlines[5].

Wheatley Vodka is distributed throughout the United States and Canada.
