I have been babywearing since 1993, got online in 1995 and in 1997 I wrote an extensive review article about different slings and carriers then on the market. It was published in Midwifery Today magazine, and I put it on my personal site. Since then, the world of baby carriers has undergone a transformation. Where there used to be a few dozen different brands, there are now thousands.

In 2001, a babywearing community was started at Yahoo. In 2003, Thebabywearer.com launched, and Vijay Owens and I started Nine In, Nine Out, a nonprofit babywearing organization. In 2006, I chaired the first international babywearing conference in Portland, Oregon, which brought together parents, vendors and educators from around the world.

I helped start a local buying club in 2012, which now serves thousands of members, and am an active advocate online for LGBTQIA+ kids and adults, and for people with disabilities.
