About Jim Plaxco

Hello. I am Jim Plaxco.

I am a digital artist specializing in abstract, algorithmic, astronomical, portrait, and space art. A selection of my work can be seen at www.artsnova.com. Much of my art has been created using programs of my own design. In fact I would say that my Master's Degree in Computer Science has served me better as an artist than a MFA would have!

I'm also a frequent speaker on the topics of astronomical art, algorithmic art, and space art. I have taught classes on astronomical image processing at the Adler Planetarium as well as classes on Processing (processing.org).

When I am not wearing my artist hat or my programmer hat, I am wearing my space activist hat. I have previously had the honor of being a Vice President of the Planetary Studies Foundation and a Vice President as well as a Director of the National Space Society. I am currently a NASA JPL Solar System Ambassador and President of the Chicago Society for Space Studies. Most of my space exploration presentations deal with the future commercial development of space and the associated economics (not surprising since my Bachelor's Degree was in Economics).

The best way of staying informed on my activities is to read my blog.

Ad Astra, Jim
