John Roderick Graham is a film composer and music producer. He is best known for his film scores to "Bitch Slap," "Lange Flate Ballær 2" and "American Strays." His work is notable for combining traditional orchestra with samples and electronic music to create music with primal, elemental sounds.

Biography[edit]

Graham was born in Charlottesville, Virginia and spent time studying music as a youth at Charterhouse School in Surrey, England, where he was able to immerse himself in singing and studying music. Graham began his career singing and playing in bands, while studying traditional orchestral music. Graham pursued his studies at Williams College, Stanford University, and UCLA, focusing more and more on film music over time.

In 1993, Graham scored his first films with director Rick Jacobson, with whom he has collaborated many times, including on the 2009 film "Bitch Slap." Along with feature films, Graham wrote and orchestrated music for Warner Brothers and Disney cartoons in the 1990s, working for mentor and friend Eric Schmidt, and wrote music for the pilot of "Them" and other feature-length television projects. Graham wrote the score for the directorial debut of James Brolin, "My Brother's War," and led to further work with Brolin, including scoring for the series Pensacola: Wings of Gold in which Brolin played Lt. Col. Bill "Raven" Kelly.

Through his work with Immediate Music, Graham's music has been used in trailers for many films, including "Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian (Fox)," "Shorts (Warner Brothers)," "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Paramount Pictures)," "The Tale of Despereaux (Universal Pictures)," "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (Universal Pictures)," "Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium (Mandate / Fox Walden)," and "Venus (Miramax)."
