Kikulwe Michael is a professional participatory applied theater facilitator and and an artist in Uganda. He is the artistic director of a company known as pamoja theater whose major interests are in applied theater techniques with much emphasis in participatory theater. His specialties are mainly in the areas of theater for development, forum theater, drama in education, image theater, invisible theater, legislative theater, photo romance, life drama, advocacy theater, theater for social justice, theater for healing, community sensitization, peace resolution, team training and joker/facilitation training. He is one of the best experts in applied theater and research in East Africa and has been recognized for his work in theater for development and peace resolution through the use of theater.
History
[edit]Michael was born in Mukono a central district of Uganda. He attended Namataba primary School from P1 to P3 then Namagunga mixed school for P3 to P7. He joined St Ponsiano Ngondwe Kangulumira for S1 and S2 in Kayunga district from there, he attended St. Josephs College Namagunga from S3 to S4 then S5 and S6 in Mukono Municipality. He then attended the Mighty Makerere University and studied a Bachelors Degree in Drama specializing in Applied Theater and Film.
Personal Life
[edit]Kikulwe Michael is married to Flavia Namakula and they are blessed with two sons. Michael has since childhood been an invigorate person who desires to transform people and communities positively through the use of theater and there is no doubt that this zeal led him to mobilize two of his other colleagues to form Pamoja Theater.
Pamoja Theater
[edit]In 2012 a company known as Pamoja Theater was started in Uganda, which now operates in the six countries of East Africa. Pamoja Theater was started by Kikulwe Michael, Ssali Tonny and Ssekamatte Phillip and currently its the best participatory theater company in East Africa. The company which is believed to be among the leaders in Theater for Development, Forum Theater, Joker/facilitation training, Community Sensitization and Peace Resolution. Kikulwe Michael has been the artistic director of this company since its inception.
