Statistics:Music, classical music and other arts projects[edit]

A number classical music-related projects have recently completed bannering bot runs and I thought it would be useful to post the statistics here.

  1. ^ This functions as a workgroup of the Biography project. It uses the Biography Project banner and runs nominal assessment campaigns.
  2. ^ No direct article count is possible for the Theatre project.

I will have something more to say shortly, but if anyone else wants to comment, please go ahead!

Stats:Conclusions[edit]

The figures show that the Opera Project (65 archives and still going strong) is significantly more active than the other arts projects. 'Tech' driven groups such as 'Biography' may have mega-bannering bot runs (523,534+ articles), and box-checking assessment drives, but they don't have a problem-solving approach to editing or any focus on quality. Other ones such as 'Music' are largely inactive and should probably follow the example of 'Arts' which does not banner articles at all, concentrating on its portal etc. --

Statistical review (7 March 08)[edit]

We now have 4,113 articles about opera. (These are articles displaying the Opera Project banner.)

Here are some more figures to illustrate the development of the Opera Project to date:

From The opera corpus:

  • Composers = 503 (of which 7 are still red-linked)
  • Opera titles = 1,884 articles (about 450 still red linked)

Category: Operas:

  • Opera title articles = 1,421

Conductors[edit]

Category:Music directors (opera) 56 under Category:Conductors

1776 under Category:Conductors by nationality

Judging by Category:Conductors by nationality there are about 1,800 or 1,900 articles on conductors. It was established that these are under the 'primary care' of the 'Classical Music' project.

Obviously many/most of the conductors have worked in the opera house.

Subpage[edit]

Most opera statistics derive from categories. Individual articles are tagged and then grouped according to category, producing totals. Categories appear either on the article page or on the talk page.

Talk pages[edit]

Category:WikiProject Opera articles gives the total number of Opera Project articles (5,000 on 4 September 2008).
