Chick (born 1 July, 1685 AD) was the first Manhead of Shamick Village. He was known for founding the country, and becoming the best-known Manhead. His birth name was unknown, but there is speculation as to what it was. To this day, there is debate about the morality and true intentions of Chick, however, he is widely regarded as a folk hero.

Biography

Most of what is known about his early life is taken directly from his word, and as such, it may be unreliable. Chick was likely born to a farmer family of Dutch Surinamese, who owned a small plantation outside the capital of Suriname. He claims to have been born under the name Wilhelm Aftenoot, in which case, he would have grown up alongside two sisters and two brothers, all of whom being older than him. He was raised a Christian, and grew up speaking the Dutch language. When he was younger, he would commonly mimic everything his siblings did, in order to gain attention from his parents. However, they dismissed him, as he was not the first in line to inherit the family's possessions. He was noted for not doing particularly well in school, and would commonly run off during the school day, playing in the woods. Many of his friends and classmates didn't remember him favorably, as he was always odd-mannered.

As he began to get older, his family would fall into ruin and famine. With one bad harvest after another, the family was not making any money, and the Dutch colonial government revoked all of their rights to the family's plantation. He faced severe neglect from his parents during this time, and was denied what little food they had left. As such, he fled from his family and went north into Colonial Guyana, which was occupied by the British. He arrived in Shamick Village, which was a small village outside Georgetown.

Adoption

In Shamick Village, Aftenoot had no knowledge of the local English language, and no understanding of the local people. Because of this, he was forced to raise himself. As he was wandering through the streets one day, a man named Anatoly Kuzhanof found him. Starving and alone, Kuzhanof took him into his home. Kuzhanof was a Russian immigrant to Shamick, but was well-traveled, and had been to Suriname as well, having the ability to speak Dutch, and used that ability to speak to him in his native language. Kuzhanof taught him Russian as well so he could communicate with his adoptive family. He had an adoptive sister, Elisiveta Kuzhanofa, who was the same age as him, and an adoptive brother, Anton Kuzhanof, who was two years older. As he grew closer to his adoptive family, he learned more about Shamick Village. Shamick Village was founded in 1650 as a mixed settlement of Indians and British, who quickly opened its borders to worldwide immigration. Many people came to the village for a new life and better job opportunities, which were scarce elsewhere. However, the British colonial government had begun to lose favor for the settlement and eventually wanted its destruction and eventual complete removal. The British government would continue to repress the settlement as he got older.

Developing political views

As he watched the British government try to dismantle Shamick Village, he became hardened against them. As he was young, his political views were extreme and biased as he did not have the mental capacity at the time to understand such things. One day, in the middle of the night, he marched out into the street alone and cold, shouting "down with the British!". He was found by his adoptive brother, who told him off from doing such things again. Days later, the colonial authorities wrongfully charged his brother for 'enticing a riot', in an effort to scare him into not performing such acts again. However, it only hardened him more. His brother died in jail when he was 16, which depressed his adoptive sister Elisiveta and his adoptive father. In his teenage years, he went out to the center of town again, posting flyers throughout the town to march on the British colonial house in order to gain independence for the village.

The Riot of 1701

Crowds gathered outside the Colonial House, and burst in around noon. The British soldiers were overwhelmed, and the rioters quickly proclaimed Shamick Village a republic. With Aftenoot as their leader, he was bestowed the honorary name "Chick", which he used so much that it became his everyday name.

Manhead

Chick was chosen to be the leader of the new country, however, the government had not been organized yet. Many suggestions were made, such as a democratic system, a one-party system, or the system used by many other city states in the Holy Roman Empire. However, the population of Shamick Village unanimously agreed that Chick should be declared the "Manhead" of the village. The term was devised literally to mean "the head of men", which further meant "leader of men". Chick slowly gained more power.

Leadership

Chick's leadership is the best documented part of his life, and the only part that is known to be true. During his period as Manhead, he expanded Shamick Village, building new housing, and enticing immigrants to move to the village. People worldwide began to move in, and it was seen as a paradise by many. Shamick Village became associated with luxury during Chick's reign. He also built many farms and gold mines, which where the main source of employment for most of the population. To this day, he is known as the founding father of Shamick Village, and one of the founding fathers of Guyana.
