From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello, my name is Kim Serota. I have a Ph.D. in communication and I teach in the Management and Marketing Department of the School of Business Administration at Oakland University (that's in Michigan, not California; you can look it up in Wikipedia). I also have more than 30 years of experience as a marketing researcher, manager, and consultant in business and industry. My academic research interests are in the areas of deception and deception detection (especially in a marketing context), branding, and marketing strategy.

I consider Wikipedia to be a valuable tool. The breadth of coverage and the self-correcting nature of the entries make it an excellent quick reference on almost any topic. Furthermore, it is a useful entry point to more substantive knowledge about the topics in which I am interested. I do not view Wikipedia as a primary source (and hence I do not cite it nor do I allow my students to cite it) but, like a good road map, I use it constantly to help find the best routes to my destination.
