Needed?[edit]

I'm not sure what warrants and does not warrant cluttering up the custom messages section; I only included those four words above before it occurred to me to msgify the diacritics directly. I could simply try to expand the repetoire to the point were most or all P{{a}}li and Sanskrit terms that we need are available is independent msgs. This seems somehow untoward. I could also try to figure out which are the really high-use terms (like "P{{a}}li, for example) and give them their own entries, whilst leaving the others to be put together alphabetically.

The issue may or may not change with the advent of unicode (if they ever get around to switching over); on the one hand, the msg tags probably ought to be phazed out in favor of direct character input; on the hand, it might actually be easier to get people to start using the tags anyway, as entering character codes directly is probably slightly more tediouis, and most of the users here doubtless don't have Itranslator, and so forth.

Also, while it would superficially seem sensible to make {{msg:Pali}} simply on the basis of how many times I use that freakin' word, that wouldn't actually save me any keystrokes versus P{{msg:a}}li. So one could set the rule that words should be candidates if they require more than one msg to put together, and especially if they have several. Good candidates: samsara pratityasamutpada ==msg or subst?== If <nowiki>{{subst:a}} is used instead, it will be replaced with ā, even in the source code.
