Wikimedia training[edit]

Hello again Lirazelf! Thanks for attending our Wikimedia training session for Librarians, and for being part of the first phase of the Scottish Library & Information Council's Wikimedia project. Our aim is to “Establish public libraries as quality content creators in the digital sphere, and to provide open access to freely usable content about Scottish culture, derived from our rich library collections", and it's great to have you on board. Now that you've learned the basics, I do encourage you to stay logged in, and have another go at editing. If you don't want to write a new article straight away, then why not try a small edit or two first, add a link, or maybe a picture?

  • To keep up to date about Wikimedia events happening throughout Scotland, to learn more about ScotWiki projects, or to publicise your own ScotWiki event or project, join the ScotWiki Mailing List!

I'll add you to the Basecamp board, however here's some links that you may find useful in the meantime. If you've got any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Hidden Gems Editathon[edit]

Hello again Lirazelf! It was great to meet you last week at the Hidden Gems Editathon, and I hope that you enjoyed the session. I also hope that it's sparked some ideas about how you could work further with Wikipedia!

Now that you've learned the basics, I do encourage you to stay logged in, and have another go at editing. If you don't want to write a new article straight away, then why not try a small edit or two first, add a link, or maybe a picture? Remember that we learned in Visual Editor, but you may want to have a look at Wiki mark up for use on talk pages and other discussion pages.

Wiki is never finished - it's a constantly evolving entity. And there are a huge community of other editors out there who can help.

Here's some links that I hope you'll find useful:

The project page for the Scottish Library and Information Council Wikimedia project can be found here, and there's further reading specifically for librarians here.

Hello again, Lirazelf! It was great to meet everyone yesterday at St Andrews, and I hope that you enjoyed the session. I also hope that it's made you think about the benefits of universities working with Wiki.

Now that you've learned the basics, I hope that you'll stay logged in, and do some editing. If you're not feeling bold enough to write an article straight away, why not try a small edit or two first, or adding a link or picture? Don't worry about it being perfect - Wiki is never finished, it's a constantly evolving entity. And there's a huge community of other editors who can help.

Here some links that I hope will help you get in to the swing of things:
