Princeton Tiger mascot[edit]

The tiger emerged as Princeton's mascot in the late 1800s. According to Frederic Fox '39, recording secretary of Princeton University from 1964-1981 and "Keeper of Princetoniana," Princeton students adopted a "Tiger Cheer" overheard from a regiment of Union soldiers who passed through town, as well as the Tiger's distinctive orange and black colors.[1]
