Mario Galteri was born in Salle Pescara Italy on Nov 28 1952. Parents were Umberto Galteri and Dorina Galteri (Colangelo). Umberto migrated to Australia in 1956 to be followed by his wife and son a year later.
Mario attended Saint Ignatius(Richmond) school from prep to year 9. Year 10 to 12 Mario went De La Salle College in Malvern Victoria. Monash University was the next educational institute where Mario achieved a BSc. (Hons) chemistry and finally a Dip.Ed.
Mario was posted to Wellington High School in Mulgrave Victoria and taught there for 13 years. He taught chemistry, science, biology and maths. At Wellington High School, Mario held many positions of responsibility, these included, science coordinator, audio visual coordinator, buildings and grounds coordinator and computer studies coordinator.
Mario's second teaching post was at Parkwood High School (Ringwood) where he taught for a further 3 years. Here he was appointed science coordinator.
Mario enjoyed teaching and during his teaching career he also wrote and sold a number of science units. These were sold to other schools on a copyright free status.
He worked at a Heathmont Timber and Hardware store on Saturday mornings which gave him an appetite for the building industry. During this time Mario and his brother in law Tony Iacuone began a building company called Dongali Builders. They built a few houses but times were tough and building houses died off.
In 1975 Mario met his future wife Linda.
