please don't tell me you dont care this happened. yes, the roman catholic church is complicit in crimes against humanity. this cathedral is not guilty of those crimes. Black hole - Messier 87 crop max res.jpg

  • I wish people could distinguish between a religion and its tenets, and the people who identify with them. a religion, to a nonbeliever, is a set of ideas sewn together with a common thread, faith, found in the follower. without that faith, they are just words on paper or words spoken aloud. the words have no inherent power to harm or heal, but they can harm or heal when read or heard, and believed in, by a believer. and everyone believes something a little different about their religion, their faith varies. many millions of Muslim believers have never wanted to harm anyone based on their religion, do not wish harm on others to be delivered by members of their religion. they are decent human beings. they are human. however, the set of ideas of Islam, of any religion, can, and must, be examined, questioned, and challenged. jesus challenged the pharisees. martin luther challenged the catholic church. Muhammad challenged his fellow arabs in their pre-islamic beliefs. what was challenged was not the people, but the beliefs they held. this seems like a nearly impossible task, but we have to be able to challenge those beliefs, those systems of thought, which contain support for violence or intolerance. all religions may have some, or at least all religions have some believers that espouse violence and intolerance. Islam is unfortunately saddled with an abundance of justifications of violence. it must be said even today, when muslims are innocent victims of another faith.
  • Its really pretty astounding, that one of the worlds most corrupt, criminal, idiotic, and vile people is sitting in the most powerful political position in the history of the world. He can, today, wreak more havoc on our only home in the universe, than any single person ever, and we have nearly no protections against this. nothing i am writing is in any way an exaggeration of the threat he poses to life on earth. nothing. via his enablers, he is now capable of reducing human civilization and the environment to an empty shell of what it is now, as long as he believes he is safe from the consequences. dwell on this when you vote, my fellow americans. we did this. we elected the incarnation of Kali for our age. - me

  • Bret Stephens presents a well thought-out position: One can oppose the position of the Israeli government vis a vis the Palestinians without being anti-Semitic or even anti-Zionist and I will support you.

However, unless you are prepared to claim that the Palestinians are somehow suffering more than any number of other peoples (Yazidis, Syrians, Uhgars, etc.) than to focus criticism exclusively on Israel - and to be silent on all the others - suggests that your interest is not for the poor downtrodden Palestinians but rather the demonization of Israel. But if, by some stretch of the imagination (because it is not based on fact), you actually believe the plight of the Palestinians is so dire that you must speak out on their behalf exclusively, to be silent to the treatment of Palestinians in their fellow Arab countries (who, by the way, are truly victims of apartheid in Lebanon), strongly suggests, once again, that your real objection is to excoriate the Jewish State.

And there lies the rub.

To deny the Jewish People the same right to self-determination that you promote for everyone else, to suggest that Jews choose to engage in unamerican and anti-democratic tactics to support a nation that has no business existing crosses the line into unabashed anti-Semitism.- Edward Prince (nyt editorial social media commenter)

  • "It’s very clear that the president obstructed justice...Eleven hundred times he referred to the Mueller investigation as a witch hunt.… he tried to protect (retired Lieutenant General Michael) Flynn from being investigated by the FBI. He fired Comey in order to stop the Russian thing, as he told NBC News.… He’s intimidated witnesses—in public.”
  • why is this even a conversation? if this level of dishonesty had been displayed by any other president, they would have been removed within days, if not hours, of the discovery. we have had nothing like this in our history. watergate doesnt come close, i have no doubt teapot dome was nothing either. irancontra, nope. this man is a monster. he has got to go, now. every gop supporter should be removed from office in recall campaigns right now. every gop voter should be demanding their immediate removal. every conservative citizen should be screaming for a housecleaning. every christian should be denouncing trump and the gop from the pulpit, every single sunday, until he is gone. if obama had done 1/100 of this, every black preacher in the US would have exhorted him to resign immediately. he would be persona non grata in the black community, lucky to sit in a back pew quietly. i swear this is a greater moral crisis than the civil war. at that time, it was so common to view slavery as acceptable, that it was a serious question as to how it would shake out. the consequences of that struggle were of course much more serious than anything weve had so far in this struggle, but the black and white starkness now, of what we know is right, vs what those who are doing wrong KNOW IS WRONG, is beyond comprehension. does russia have compromat on all of them? are all their children wearing explosive neckchains that will go off if they move on trump? have space aliens taken over their bodies? • star wars was never good: no. the first film was wonderful. nothing like it up until then. since then, all downhill. all. and every other film has copied it, so its not original any longer, that style of blockbuster action. i was there. i didnt like bad films. i saw it 7 fucking times, it was that good. and i have not been a star wars fan since. not one smidgen of excitement for any of them, either before, during, or after their release. star wars was lucas' magnum opus, and he never had the balls to move beyond it. its just a franchise operation now to rake in ancillary cash. these arent movies, they are products. empire was a product, nothing more. a fairly well crafted product, with some good moments, but nothing more. the original film is way too empty of real content or mythos to justify this behemoth of a franchise. star trek has a whole enlightened history to explore, of US. marvel has the shared low budget efforts of dozens of striving artists at marvel comics for decades, and of course they have lee/kirby, the lennon/mccartney of comic books. james bond has a single, iconic, culturally appropriate character that has worked alongside international espionage, and internatinal travel, for a half century. it opened up the world, it was a travel brochure for the jet set. it will probably die, now that the secret agent is not a myth we care about as much. but star wars? just a cheap serial accompaniment to a b movie double feature matinee for the kids. its not carl jung or joseph campbell, its carl laemmle and joseph mankiewicz, an homage to lost hollywood. I wish it could have been left as a coda, but no, we have to watch it mutate and devour itself. the sorrow and the pity. (me)

His actions in office are consistent with his life-long track record of scams, bankruptcies, defaults, financial fraud, closed businesses, assaults on women, his miraculous business turnaround funded with Russian mob cash, and racial hatred that he inherited from his odious father Fred, a KKK member. Trump will be remembered as an American disaster and a national disgrace. The worst president in history, with an asterisk in the history books noting that his presidency was proven to be illegitimate from the start. • I just want to point out the obvious: no matter what happens to trump, or the GOP, or in November, or with the Supreme Court, or with sanctions on Russia, or with indictments of Russian operatives. The takeaway, for the entire world watching, is this: we bleed. we are mortal. the United States can be cut down to size. while we are probably too big, and too powerful, this is NOT the way you want to reduce your presence. we have been defeated by a foreign adversary, who used our own ignorance, fear and hatred against us. we have been played by Putin, and by Kim, and by others, and no matter how much we manage to reverse any of this, and even regain good will, this historic loss of prestige will NEVER be forgotten by ANYONE. this is a permanent win for the forces of autocracy, against democracy. and we let it happen on our watch. shame on us.

So very simply: stop resisting the will of the American people" -So Trump wants the will of the voters who support him to triumph over the will of the voters who dont support him, and over their elected representatives. I guess he believes in the "Triumph of the Will", to coin a phrase. i like that, it has a nice ring to it, very ominous, timeless, like ive heard it before. i think it would make a good slogan for his next campaign. I know! how about a title for a documentary on his rise to power! even better, just film one of his rallies, to show the raw energy and enthusiasm of them! make it really cinematic! and for an extra touch, hire a female director so that he can deflect criticisms of sexism. maybe a really good cinematographer. how about doing it in black and white, with no dialog, just his words and the adulation of the crowds, to make it more effective at propagating his message. - me

Everyone knows when the Russian banks were going down, the oligarchs pulled their money and bought Trump's buildings at double the price to keep it safe. Trump's worth billions alright... Billions of Russian rubles that he has to eventually give back. He buys everything using the interest that money is generating and that is how he's been able to fund everything else. • Unfortunately, this is the end result when one party in this nation, which has dedicated over 50 years to deliberately inciting bigotry, racial animus, xenophobic fear, celebrating ignorance, fomenting extremist Christianity, denying science, ignoring medical facts, and encouraging white supremacists, all in slavish fealty to rigid right wing ideology and party power and money over everything else. We have one party essentially engaged in the willful destruction of the functions of our government, and fully complicit in the theft of our most recent election by a hostile foreign government. We have one party which has neither capacity nor interest in governing for the welfare, health, and security of the American people - instead, their unswerving fealty is to the plutocrats on the right, and they don't care who dies, how many children are hungry and under-educated, how many women are forced to endure unwanted pregnancies, or how many people's religious beliefs (or lack thereof) are gutted so that they can codify Christian Sharia Law as our national religion. They do not care whether they completely trash our spectacular wilderness, national parks, wildlife, etc. - when there is another drop of oil or piece of coal that might further line their platinum pockets. • I have come to the painful conclusion that we truly are in a battle for the Nation's soul. For over a year, Trump's supporters have said that he might be a bully, but at least he speaks honestly. He might be cruel, but at least he's not politically correct. He might offend allies, domestic and internationally, but he's not a typical politician. He might propose draconian budget cuts, but at least Trump's trying to reign in government. He might install his own (ignorant) family and cronies to positions of power, but at least he's trying to "drain the swamp." His budget and actions might be hurting the very people he's supposed to protect, but he sticks his finger in the eye of Hillary and everyone else he blames for our problems. Enough. Trump is ignorant, mean, vain, selfish, and dangerous. Leadership always has been about character more than policies, and Trump has repeatedly displayed an appalling lack of character. Those who support and enable him tacitly or explicitly approve of that character. It is the character of our leaders that defines our Nation, and it is time to put in place men and women whose character is worthy of the Nation they represent. - Blueridger

  • I remember the first time POTUS Trump (then just mr trump) attacked head on the intel/natsec community, I remember it well because of a conversation a number of us had that day at Mom's over lunch. See, back then even those of us not directly working on projects that would have made you aware of some of the issues going on with Trump &co that the general population is just now hearing about (and there is more to come)...even WE knew that Trump was the LAST person who should be picking a fight with Natsec/Intel. It was that "people in glass houses" saying that came to mind. Most of us already were aware of the challenges even the greatest of minds would have stepping into the POTUS job with zero experience, and Trump is FAR FAR from a world class mind. So when we heard that this NY real estate reality star who had never so much as spent a single day in service to our nation and knew less about it then most of our children was picking a fight with us purely for political say we laughed is an understatement. Well now he is POTUS, and his attacks on natsec/intel community are no longer funny especially considering that atm he is at the center of one of the potentially largest threats to our nation in a half century. We have always done our jobs regardless of what party is in the WH, but this POTUS specifically insulted us and attacked us, our families, our honor, our service, and our dedication to protecting this nation. So I doubt it would surprise anyone that some of us are working a few hours longer, and putting aside vacations and other activities in order to focus on our work. I truly pray he and his are innocent, but I swear on my children's lives, if they are not he will deeply regret the day he chose to call us out and pick a fight because we serve our nation not ANY one man. - 21211

Many of Trump's actions and policies are so wrongheaded, bizarre, illegal and unconstitutional that it's impossible to defend them without relying primarily on lies, distortions, bizarre fantasies and wild conspiracy theories. This is why so Trump's White House aides are equally delusional and routinely spout falsehoods. Bannon, Miller, Conway, Spicer and other high-level White House enablers know that President Trump believes only the bizarre falsehoods that are fed to him by his White House sycophants, especially Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller, as well as by "Alt-Right" websites. Trump is a charlatan con man who surrounds himself only with obsequious toadies who feed his ego by protecting him from real-world facts that contradict his self-serving fantasies. Trump and his appointees are the public face of the dystopian reality TV show that has taken over the White House. Sadly, President Trump himself is both delusional and seriously mentally ill. This is a tragic truth. He has an extreme and pathologically destructive case of Malignant Narcissism; in fact, a rare textbook case of this severe mental disorder. He's also paranoid. Trump's mental illnesses, combined with his obviously dysfunctional staff of toadies, means that he now constitutes an existential danger to the security and stability of democracy and the rule of law in the United States. Trump's only mission in life is to protect his own ego. Nothing else matters to him. He worships dictators, such as Putin, while rejecting the Rule of Law. He relies on his own populist appeal to his most fervent followers, very much in the style of a Hitler, Mussolini and Peron. His dystopian world view is dangerously reminiscent of dystopian novels such as 1984, "It Can't Happen Here" (it can, and it has) and, especially, The Plot Against America (in which Charles Lindburgh defeats FDR in 1940 in an anti-Semitic and pro-Hitler "America First" campaign.)'" - RetiredForeignServiceOfficer

  • '"There have been so many articles written about Trump supporters but in the final analysis it always comes out the same. A vote for Trump was an idiotic choice. A vote for Trump demonstrated a profound inability to judge human character. What is remarkable is that Trump was always transparent about his ambition, his lifestyle and his gross appetite for crass symbols of wealth, power, and sex. There was literally nothing in his past to show he had even an iota of interest in helping anyone other than himself. He was the living embodiment of the self-absorbed flashy salesman who had a knack for manipulation and fast talking. Anyone one with even half a brain and a minimum of life experience would recognize the Trump personality type in an instant. Trump is the guy who got you to sign a worthless extended warranty policy, Trump is the guy who talked you into getting undercoating and seal coating on your new car, Trump is the guy who convinced you to make monthly payments on a $5000 vacuum cleaner and buy a time share in Atlantic city, Trump is the guy telling you vitamins will cure whatever ails you and that his “university” will teach you how to make a million. In short, he is a lying con man out to make a buck however he can. If the United States was nothing more than a gigantic brothel and casino, yes, Trump would be the perfect president. Pinning all your hopes on the far-fetched notion that a greedy, corrupt narcissist will somehow transform into a caring, balanced magnanimous leader is worthy of dumb and dumber status. After all, a lifetime of shady, sleazy, often unsuccessful, rapacious business ventures is certainly the appropriate prerequisite for being president.'" - d99r99

  • '"What happens is this: After enough time passes, people forget the dangers and results of fascism. They begin to become bored with the processes--intellect, thought, time--required to govern. They long for an anti-intellectual, purely emotional outburst of rage. Enough time having passed that sufficient people have forgotten that millions tend to die from this form of governance, as it seeks violence at its core, they fall for it. Again. We can avoid this only if we are: Smarter, stronger, louder and longer, absolutely tenacious in our putting forth truth and fact. Absolute persistence. Absolute boldness. Loud, bold, long and true. It will disappoint the enraged. They will pout, as they sulk, disarmed from their irrationality. But they will be unable to deny the truth. He has enlisted a Cabinet of Foxes whose personal mission is to destroy the agencies over which they rule. Corruption is back in vogue as is nepotism. We have insulted our allies and embraced our enemies. He has generals who are anxious to turn plows into swords. Who see carnage and danger lurking everywhere. We have an AG who is a relic of Dixie racism, and fixated on bringing the country to his world views, as old and decrepit as they are. The administration is embarking upon a trade war which really shows how dumb they are. We played this game in the 20's and 30's and it brought the world economy to a halt. US suffered its worst depression ever, and the end game was World War II. Meanwhile, he messages and spews snake oil lies and his constituents lap it up. Meanwhile, Congress under the leadership of Mr. Ryan and Mr. McConnell are all about ideology, wonky bad ideas and keeping their conjones in their pockets, least they make their dear leader angry. • 1. Extremely secretive especially around personal finances
  • 2. Attacking freedom of the press

  • 4. Nepotism with family members in formal and informal cabinet positions
  • 5. Mixing government and personal funds or not putting up adequate separations between them (generally to obfuscate bribes)

Second, the GOP stonewalled the nomination of Merrick Garland by a sitting president for almost a year, with the Senate GOP leader refusing to even meet Garland. This purely political grandstanding warrants a response by the Democrats, especially considering the political extremism of Trump’s nominee. Third, with Trump under investigation for impeachable offenses, including possible collusion with a foreign power to influence his election, it would be irresponsible for Congress as a whole to proceed with filling a lifetime appointment to the Court until these matters are resolved. Since the Republican members of the Senate seem unable to grasp even this fundamental ethical principle, it is incumbent on the Democratic minority to challenge the nomination by whatever means they can — to the point of forcing the GOP majority to pervert the rules of this august body if they want to railroad through their Gosh ‘n Golly duplicitous and extremist jurist.'" - Jack_Armstrong

It is becoming more and more apparent to everyone that Trump ONLY cares about himself and that is why none of us will give him love or respect in return. Some people can ignore the truth for a long long time, but if you lie to them over and over and over again, eventually they figure out that they are just being used. I just laugh listening to the Trump supporters wheel out one nonsensical explanation after another. Where are all the seasoned Republican strategists and policy wonks and members of Congress during this. Hiding, owning up to his unfitness, spinning it into another web of lies. I laugh at the amazing lack of insight. He has no real defenders. His electorate worries about the status of white folks and christianity, the phony hypocritical variety they practice. • '“Behind all its “creative achievements” which are essentially nothing more than a squandering of existing reserves and a parasitic consumption of the organized resources and achievements of generations of labour, was a stupendous wave of wild emotion -- envy, hatred, vengefulness, and the hot rivalry of small men in pursuits of power and success. All this only became clear to the middle classes and even to sections of the organized workers when the process was virtually complete. The absence of resistance to it shows its true nation was not realized, or else that the middle classes no longer had the strength to resist. But it must be said in defense of the middle classes, and of all of us, that few were aware of the cynicism with which the demagogic means of swindling the nation were being brought to bear. Hitler, in a sentence which has been deleted from later editions of Mein Kampf, wrote this, “The German has not the faintest notion of the way the nation has to be swindled if one wants mass support.” “The fight against the intellectuals and against the freedom of science is not in the slightest degree the outcome of any inferiority complex, it arises from the clear recognition that in the field of the intellect the indissoluble unity of Western Civilization remains active. In this field independence of thought and resistance to the revolution are bound to show themselves sooner or later.” p 89 The Revolution Of Nihilism - Warning to the West Hermann Rauschning 1939'

Edit history[edit]

  • Data collected through 2015/09/17, including (most) IP edits

My articles that have reached DYK status[edit]

My articles that have reached C class or better[edit]

  • Hayward, California, expanded, from poorly organized to well organized B class (failed at GA), demoted to C by a wiser editor than I
  • Reincarnated (album), created, some initial expansion to a strong start, now a very strong C class, probably a B class or higher
  • Flower Power (photograph), created, some initial expansion, now a strong C class
  • Eric Swalwell, created, some initial expansion to a strong start, now a strong C class
  • Dendrogramma, created, some initial expansion, now B (considering how little we know, this article may be everything current on it)

Articles, categories, templates, and disambiguation pages created[edit]

The Bay Area group[edit]

This is a collection of all the articles, categories, and templates related to the San Francisco Bay Area, which i have created or contributed to significantly. This lists contents is also contained in the larger list of all articles i have edited/created.

Articles renamed (moved)[edit]

List of articles by creation date[edit]

This list generated automatically, doesn't yet include my creations from redirects, etc. thus is 15 articles, more including templates, short of my personal count. some are trivial redirects, which count as articles, but which i would not. redirects which may one day be articles (and are not just name variants) would of course eventually count, but only if i build them up.
