"Because we can...", not "Because it is encyclopedic..." or "Because it is relevant...".
There isn't a day goes by without someone drawing attention to the dumbing down of Wikipedia. Many reasons have been given for this and readers with the slightest nous would have seen them over and over and over.
To me the "Because we can..." rationale for including irrelevant or unethical information is the antithesis of creating a good encyclopedia to a high standard. I wanted to find out a little about Robert M. Tombaugh, the man who discovered the planet Pluto, so I visited his Wiki article. Would you believe it says that "Through the daughter of his youngest brother (Tombaugh) is the great uncle of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw".
