SEEK Learning is a wholly owned subsidiary of SEEK Ltd., Australia and New Zealand’s [1] number one ranked employment website. SEEK Learning is a part of SEEK Education which includes the Think Education Group, share of profits from IDP (50%) and Swinburne Online (50%)[2]. With the inception of SEEK Learning in 2004, SEEK has helped over 100,000 people advance their careers through education and training[3].

Company History

Establishing SEEK

SEEK, was founded in Melbourne in 1997 by brothers Andrew and Paul Bassat and co-founder Matthew Rockman. SEEK's primary goal is to connect people with career, education and business opportunities. The site initially focused on the Australian online employment market before expanding into New Zealand in 1999 with the launch of www.seek.co.nz. The website lets jobseekers search for jobs against specified criteria such as industry, location and salary band.

SEEK Learning

Seeing a natural relationship between job hunting and career training, in 2004 SEEK moved into the education and training industry with the acquisition of online training company SelfCert. This business division became known as SEEK Learning. SEEK Learning partner with selected TAFE, university and vocational education providers to help people find and enrol in career-related training courses. The website currently offers over 300 courses[4] from leading Australian education providers. Since launching SEEK Learning, SEEK has made a number of education related acquisitions[5]:

2005

SEEK acquired Dynamic Web Training PTY Ltd. Dynamic Web Training provide short campus based training courses for popular software applications such as Microsoft Office, MYOB and Adobe. Their training options include web design, web development, graphic design, multimedia development, MYOB and Microsoft Office applications.

2006

SEEK acquired a 50% interest in IDP Education Pty Ltd[6], a provider of English language testing and enrolment services to international students looking to study in a number of countries including Australia, UK, USA and Canada.

2007

SEEK acquired a 50% interest in Think: Education Group Pty Ltd (“THINK”), a private education organisation that owns several private tertiary colleges including:

  • William Blue College of Hospitality Management
  • APM College of Business and Communication
  • Australian National College of Beauty
  • Australasian College of Natural Therapies
  • Jansen Newman Institute

The remaining 50% of THINK was acquired by SEEK in May 2009[7].

How SEEK Learning Works

SEEK Learning has partnerships with a range of accredited course providers including Skillsoft, Australian College of Applied Psychology (ACAP), Open Universities Australia (OUA), Swinburne Online and OTEN TAFE NSW. SEEK Learning offers a consultancy service that involves guiding prospective students through the available course options and assisting with the enrolment process.

Course Delivery

The majority of courses are offered via distance education, either online or by correspondence; selected courses are also available on campus.

Short Courses

One to three day software application training is available in Microsoft applications, MYOB, web design, web development, and graphic design. Short courses are also available for TESOL qualifications.

Advertising and Marketing

SEEK Learning’s brand is aligned to that of its parent company – SEEK Jobs. SEEK Learning has produced two television commercials which are hosted on the brand's YouTube channel[8].

SEEK Learning use social media including Facebook, to share study tips and training news. In addition, the business cross promotes their services in other SEEK owned platforms, linking education and training opportunities with employment opportunities advertised on SEEK Jobs.

SEEK Volunteer

SEEK Volunteer is a non-profit initiative developed by SEEK, Volunteering Australia and the Boston Consulting Group. SEEK Volunteer is designed especially for potential volunteers and the organisations seeking their help. Volunteer opportunities are updated daily and all organisations have been qualified by Volunteering Australia's associated state centres8.
