Today's unfeatured article

Greetings. Before using this site under a username, I was a frequent visitor of Wikipedia under IP address for many years until I created this account sometime in October 2011. Go figure. I also participated in much smaller wikis where I did much work there under the username X~Calibur95. Google search that and you will see it for yourself. I may or may not be active here that much since I'm currently a college student so I may or may not reply to your messages right away unless it is something urgent.

Cows eating a pile of trash

Waste and wastes are terms for unwanted materials while litter refers to waste disposed of improperly. Examples include municipal solid waste (household trash/refuse), hazardous waste, wastewater (such as sewage, which contains bodily wastes, or surface runoff), radioactive waste, and others. The term is often subjective (because waste to one person is not necessarily waste to another) and sometimes objectively inaccurate (for example, to send scrap metals to a landfill is to inaccurately classify them as waste, because they are recyclable). The terms can have various connotations, including pejorative tone (for example, "this spoiled food is nothing but waste now") or a squandering of potential (for example, "growing residential lawns in the desert is a waste of water").
