Bioresonance therapy is a diagnostic and therapeutical method of alternative medicine that is not accepted by scientific medicine and is popular in some countries, mainly german-speaking countries. This method is also known under many other names and has been modified several times leading to similar methods, for instance electroacupunture by Voll.

Bioresonance therapy has been invented in 1977 and introduced on the market as Mora-therapy by the german physician Franz Morell and his son-in-law, ingeneer Erich Rasche and was named after them (MOrell RAsche). This method is based on former radionics introduced in the USA during the 1920-ies. L. Ron Hubbard claimed to have developed such a radionics-device.

The manufacturer and user of bioresonance therapy claim to be able to detect and to cure a variety of diseases without needing the use of drugs, simply by testing alleged alternating currents between two body points. Usually the patient helds two electrodes in his hands that are connected to a eletronic bioresonance-device. The exact mode of operation is still unknown. In some cases, when a bioresonance device was opened by experts, a electronic circuit for skin-resistor measuring was detected, similar to the E-Meter used by Scientology or older lie detectors. It is claimed that these device were able to separate so called pathogen electric signals from the mixture of signals such a device may receive via the electrodes. Furthermore, it is claimed that these instruments were able to transform these pathogen signals into their opposite and to transmit these signals as healing signals over the same electrodes in order to have a curative effect.

The exact nature of these signal is unknown, the manufacturer of bioresonance device did not explain amplitude, phase angle or frequency range of theses signals.

The given mode of operation by the manufacturer (pathogen / healthy signals) remembers similar concepts in chinese traditional medicine and esspecially acupuncture.

Diseases that are claimed to be heale are:

  • allergies
  • sleep disorders
  • chronic pain

Scientific studies [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] showed however that the bioresonce therapy could not show effects suppassing placebo-effects, and that the results were not reproducible.

This method is therefore not payed by german health insurances.

Morell, Rasche and some other manufacturer were or are member of scientology cult.
