Thanks for your kind offer. Mediation would most likely be fruitless. Billbrock 02:19, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

RFM subnational entities?

[edit]

Hello, are you still interested in mediation? Please reply at my talk page. Redwolf24 (talk) 02:07, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure. I don't quite understand the processes yet, and they are not well documented.
  • When do the the RFCs become complete? I don't see any time limit listed, and it's hard to figure out where everything stands:
    1. Conradi never responded to the Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Tobias Conradi. What happens next?
    2. The MedCab guy issued "final" comments on the one that he started at Wikipedia:Request for comment/Naming conventions (subnational entities). Again, what happens next?
  • Meanwhile, having been driven off the "(subnational entities)" project page, I posted my proposed text on the superior project "(places)" — and after virtually no controversy (unlike the fierce fights over US and Canada there), it's all now part of the adopted guidelines at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (places). It probably helped that I've some experience writing international standards (Google is your friend).
  • Really, it all came down to the tamper tantrums of one guy.
  • The reasons for the tantrums became apparent when I discovered Conradi had been vigorously moving/renaming pages to create a de facto standard after losing the straw poll of August 2005.
  • The issue isn't resolved with finality, as there are still thousands of pages to be moved and fixed to conform to the new guidelines.
    • Do RfCs persist until all the problems are fixed?
    • Would a goal of RfM be that Conradi help in putting things back where they belong?
  • After so long a wait, I'd hate to give up the opportunity for actual RfM help, but as I don't know what's the regular practice for completion of RfCs, and how RfM fits into the schema, I don't know what to do next.
  • (I'll watch here for the answer.)
--William Allen Simpson 02:49, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Conradi isn't interested in mediation it appears, so the mediation won't happen as both parties must agree. As for your other questions, I'd really like to answer them all but I'm busy trying to reform RFM right now... Redwolf24 (talk) 02:54, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

With Red busy reforming the Mediation Committee, he's asked me to step in and answer the rest of your questions. First and foremost, as Red said, Mediation can't happen if both parties don't submit to it. As for RfC, for the most part they go on until they stop (i.e., people stop adding material) and if a clear consensus has emerged, then that consensus should be respected. Quite unfortunately, there is no official method for determining what said consensus is, or even if consensus has been reached. What I mean is, there is no RfC Committee that swoops in, closes the discussion, and announces a verdict. It is most certainly a flaw in the system that often renders RfC nothing more than an evidence gathering stage for a later RfM or RfAr.
It sounds to me as though a consensus has developed, even if not at the RfC, and it has been adopted as the standard. I don't think requiring the other party to help "fix" things is a good idea; it is only likely to fuel further conflict. If a number of identical, repetitive changes are being made, then one of the many bots approved for such tasks may be of help. You can ask at WP:BOT.
For now, I would say go ahead with making the articles conform to the consensus as it has been adopted, and put the rest of the unpleasantness in the past. If problems persist where the other party is acting against consensus, then bring it to the attention of administrators via WP:AN/I.
I hope this helps, and if you have other questions, feel free to ask them of me here or on my talk page. — Essjay · Talk 03:04, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
Conradi's not interested? Wow, he's the one that filed for RfM in response to our RfC! I guess that was just a tactic. As for the rest of the process information, thank you both, Redwolf/Matt and Essjay.

Hi, I'm around. --Improv 06:54, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm around. Hmmm, if you had looked at the history, you would have seen that I had been systematically removing the old requests only after making sure that they were not wanted anymore, but I guess deleting them all at once is more efficient. — Asbestos | Talk (RFC) 16:58, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm beginning to believe that my old request isn't wanted by the community, as no one has commented nor voted on it ethier way. Perhaps I should remove it..? -MegamanZero|Talk 17:06, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

I was actually impressed by the removing of them all at once — I shouldn't have made it sound otherwise. As for the VFArb, my thinking of you as a good organizer and my thinking of you as a good arbitror don't have to be the same thing. I'm very impressed with what you've done with the MC, but allow me to have my own opinions of who I think would be good for ArbCom. If you look at my voting record, you'll find that I've voted against I number of people I actually respect very highly. — Asbestos | Talk (RFC) 13:58, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Mediation Request

[edit]

Although the page is more settled now, I am still interested in mediation or advice on Nick Baker (disputed conviction). The two points are: 1) Should a comparison of Japanese and U.S. arrest and conviction rates be allowed 2) is it fair to note the size of the media discussing a case, such as "Metropolis, the largest circulation magazine in Japan." More info on Talk:Nick Baker (disputed conviction). Thank you for your help. Sparkzilla 12:22, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Request For Protection Until Dispute Resolved

[edit]

Hi, i want to know if its possible to protect the Gothic Metal article. A while back i performed a revision of the page after a near 2 month dispute on the articles contents. After intense discussion and several revisions of the talk page on the since deleted temp article, one of the users has proceeded to start vandalising pages ive edited. This user is DanteInferno. This user was involved in the debate in opposition to the revision i wished to make, which was made due to consensus being reached on the revision and the argument being abandonded against it being posted. Since the users return he has demanded that i am vandalising pages, and has claimed me of using sock puppets to make edits to pages, and has claimed several users dislike me and refuse to work with me. Both of these claims are unsourced. Dante also seems to exhibit Meglomanical Point of View, reverting any edits made to pages listed on his user page, on the basis he 'owns' the articles. I do not know clearly how to deal with this user, and i have posted this message to several admins as i wish to ask advice from several admins i have had no previous contact with, as i do not wish to seem biased. I hope that the page can be protected against this vandalism, as it is disrupting Wikipedia to prove a point, which along with the users other actions against me, is in violationg of several Wikipedia policys. Sorry for having to seek help this way, but i am at a loss at the best way to handle this users personal vendetta against me. Leyasu 17:17, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

An Esperanzial note

[edit]

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Request for Mediation

[edit]

Request For Mediation!

[edit]

Redwolf24. I am requesting mediation for the following Wikipedia web page:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_Climax_Corporation. The Color Climax Coporation. It seems there are those older internet users that insist on casting a dark and depraved light on the Color Climax Corporation about it's history. No one has any proof of the accusations about Color Climax's history and last week we thought the issue was settled but some users we are having a problem with "Behemoth" is insiting on reverting the page back to his original slanderous article and making statments for the company that Color Climax has not made "lies". It suprises me that a Wikipedian would lie, make false statements about a company's wishes and continue to slander the Company without having some kind of legal document to prove his accusations but this user and his buddies are doing just that. I do not want internet myths and heresay posted to this page and passed off as fact. Is that what Wikipedia stands for? I thought it was a fact based website, not a Edit War game. Respecfully. Lexxfan2000.

Conclusion dispute

[edit]

I'm not sure what to do about it, but I'm pretty sure that this section of the Media bias in the United States article does not belong in Wikipedia. I've shown User:Rick Norwood why such a 'conclusion' doesn't belong in Wikipedia, but he disagrees. What do I do? - ElAmericano | talk 01:03, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Quick question about my conduct

A concern has been raised that I've bullied another editor. Since we don't cross paths much but I respect your opinion, could you tell me how far out of line I was? Proposal, plese give advise

[edit]

I ask the members of the Mediation Committee a question. I am currently working on a very massive change to how the dispute resoution is done as well as how Wikipedia functions. I want to make an Appeals board (for use of a better name), that would resolve issues before they go to the Arbitration Committee as well as help enforce there (arbcom's) rulings. Earlier, when I sought to make a higher group it didn't work, but my goal would be reached with either proposal. Now back to the idea: The board would have nine members, three selected by the Arbcom, five selected by the public (users) and one selected by Jimbo. They would each serve six-month terms (I can always change this) and would require a simple majority to make a descision. I feel that I must recieve your advise, because you deal with disputes all the time. So I ask for your comments, good or bad. Thank you for your time. WikieZach 01:17, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Bush.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bush.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Anna Moffo death hoax

[edit]

Hello. Perhaps you can help as an administrator. Various anonymous users (and one registered user who has only made one edit) keep editing the article on opera singer Anna Moffo with a claim that she has died. Sometimes they say she died yesterday; sometimes they say she's died today.

I've done extensive research today via Google, Nexis, Infotrack, The New York Times, and there's utterly no mention of her death. I even called the Metropolitan Opera, where she sits on the board of directors, and they said they've heard nothing about this. I suspect this is a hoax, considering various (or one) anonymous users seem very keen to make this change on Wikipedia. I'm wondering it this is some new hoax like "Roger Moore has died" spoof.

Are you able to lock the Anna Moffo page for a few days so this may stop? Thanks... David Hoag 02:11, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Hey Wolf,

Welcome back. Although I'm not sure we've had any real contact, I am one of the silent majority which reads a lot nonetheless. RE: Johnny Lee Clary - Please help

[edit]

Hey there, my name is Nick, my username is Potters house and I have encountered a problem with trying to provide any information about Johnny Lee Clary. I have posted this post off to other staff members also. I am not sure if this is the best route to resolve this, but can think of no other way.

The article Johnny Lee Clary has been deleted. I have known Johnny through telephone conversations and email for a short time now (about 3-4 months). He recently came and shared his life story in for our church group for the first time just two weeks ago. Before I met Johnny I became interested in his story i.e. his conversion from the head of the KKK in the US, to being a Christian Minister who now teaches against race hate groups. I found the article Johnny Lee Clary as it still is today, deleted, except for some small talk. If you read the talk you see what I have said at the time (notice I have gotten no reply, probable my fault as I don’t know heaps about WIKI policy). From my understanding Johnny Lee Clary was posting as The KingOfDixie and looks like he tried to change a few things on Wiki concerning the KKK. While this is a controversial subject, Johnny being the former leader of the KKK would probably know a thing or two and be able to contibute, but that’s another story. He eventually made an article about himself i.e. Johnny Lee Clary. Johnny being quite new to Wiki and ignorant of rules of conduct found himself at odds with some admins and had his site deleted.

Whilst observing Johnny over the last 3-4 months I have noticed that he is very outspoken against race hate groups such as the Neo Nazis, Skinheads, KKK etc. This, more often than not, lands Johnny in the hot seat. He has experienced persecution from racist groups for his departure from the KKK and voiced opinions against these racist organizations on his webpage, www.xkkk.org. Johnny has also received multiple death threats.

Because of his bold stance against these racist groups Johnny has become accustomed to hatred directed at him by those same groups. Johnny concluded that perhaps the guy who deleted the page Johnny Lee Clary was a white supremist. I am hoping to clear this up. Before he told me this, I started to create J L Clary, after hearing nothing from posting in user talk on Johnny Lee Clary's article. I wasn't 10 minutes into the J L Clary article when it was issued a deletion notice, and then before I had time to reply (about 5 minutes) it was deleted! I was amazed. I told this to Johnny and he said the main reason he was told that he couldn't have an article was because he was not prominent enough.

Johnny has a very famous testimony and has been on multiple TV shows like Oprah, Donahue, Jerry Springer, etc, and even recently when he preached in our town he made front page news, a double spread on his life, and the local ABC interviewed him live, which is not bad for our town (LISMORE NSW Australia) See http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_Kerry&dir=prev&offset=20050327125109&limit=500&action=history .

When David Wilkerson came to our town hardly anyone knew or cared, yet David Wilkerson is allowed an article (and rightfully so), but more people know of Johnny. As to whether he is famous or not, just Google search him and see all the TV interviews and radio interviews he does. He hangs with some of the most prominent Christian leaders in Australia. Besides this, just being the former KKK leader should be enough for an article (he doesn't even get a mention in the KKK one, and would be deleted). He was also a Pro Wrestler. So he is prominent in Christian circles, he is prominent amongst race hate groups, and he is also prominent in the WWE wrestling.

Johnny asked me to test the waters for him to see if he was being persecuted by someone from a race hate group. So I created some sites, John Clary Wade Watts and Operation Colorblind - the name of Johnny's Ministry. These have been fine until yesterday. I cannot understand why these sites are just issued a deletion notice? Just because they mention JLC? I was hoping to discuss these things but they are just deleted. The one on Wade Watts is about a black gospel preacher who was one of the leaders in the civil rights movement in the US and was good friends with Martin Luther King. He took Johnny Clary under his wing and even ordained Johnny as a minister (to this day Johnny is the only white man ordained in the All Black Baptist Church). But his article is up for deletion because I mentioned Clary and had a link.

That is why I am writing to you to see if you can help. It seems to me that the person(s) deleting all articles which even mention Johnny Lee Clary has an agenda. I thought that wikipedia admins had to keep a neutral stance on every article. It seems like this guy has a vendetta against JLC. Why delete the Wade Watts article. That is guilt by association and could be proof that all deletions are because of racial discrimination! I hope this is not the case and would think that it is politically motivated, as Johnny is a strong supporter of George Bush and Antaeus Feldspar of Kerry.

See:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_Kerry&dir=prev&offset=20050327125109&limit=500&action=history This shows how Antaeus Feldspar supports Kerry, which is fine, but Johnny is a strong supporter of Bush.

My hope is that Johnny will be able to have an article like any other famous person, minister, former KKK leader, or pro wrestler, and that Johnny and anyone connected with him and his ministry will in future have certain rules set in place that do not allow the wholesale deletion of the articles associated with him, but that they will be at least discussed.

I thank you for reading this long winded post. I have only been using WIKI for about a year myself so I need your help, I don't really know what else to do. I hope you can help. I personally think that Johnny's story is one that is beneficial to the cause of reconciliation between races and to the3 unity of society as a whole. It would be a shame if WIKI became known for having covert racists. Of course I hope that this is a misunderstanding and that all will be cleared up soon.

Here are some links that might help.

Virtual classroom

[edit]

I've set up the Virtual classroom (VC), which is a forum for the discussion of advanced Wikipedia skills. It differs from the help forums on Wikipedia in that major topics of discussion are scheduled and once started remain continuous.

The reason I'm contacting you is because one of the class assignments is a comparison of our user interfaces. A lot can be learned from individual users, who usually have developed their own ways of doing things. I noticed you used to edit a lot, so you no doubt have some tricks you've learned over the years. I'm hoping that you will stop by and share your wiki-expertise for the benefit of others, to pass on your wiki-knowhow to a new generation of Wikipedians (whose lifespans are measured in their participation here). I've also constructed a tools page which presents everything learned from these discussions, and it is growing -- there are some pretty powerful techniques on there now. Even Interiot, Rich Farmbrough, and CBDunkerson have stopped by the VC to show off their tools and methods. It's been a lot of fun, and you are invited. The interface topics are called:

I look forward to seeing you there and to learning your wikiways. Sincerely,  The Transhumanist    23:45, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Is it Deletable?

[edit]

Hey Redwolf24,

It is my personal opinion the List of 2000s one-hit wonders in the United States is an article that should be deleted due to it's irrelevance. (The decade isn't even over yet!)

But before I put a tag on it for proposed deletion, I thought I'd ask you first... Is it a relevant page? Do we need this article?

Unspecified source for Image:Lemming.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Lemming.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 08:37, 5 February 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 08:37, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Just for the record: I searched for a source for this image and was unable to find one.
