Nomination

[edit]

SineBot (talk · contribs) – I first came across SineBot early in my Wikipedia career. With over 2,000,000 edits, and a strict policy towards assuming good faith and against personal attacks he is one of the most productive and helpful editors on the entire project. He's got a special interest in US sports, working on such articles as 2018 in baseball, 2018 Major League Baseball season, 2017 Mountain West Conference football season and 2017 Big Ten Football Championship Game.

Don't be alarmed by the amount of times he has posted to WP:ANI; I have never seen him get into trouble over there. Every time he reminds somebody to sign posts, he does so in a polite and courteous manner. What more could one want in an admin? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:50, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

Co-nomination

[edit]

I was at first unsure about this nomination, given that SineBot appears to be an SPA. In fact I still am. But whatever. I just hope they have a good answer to my UAA question. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Linguist111 (talkcontribs) 11:00, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here: I accept the nomination. SineBot (talk)

Questions for the candidate

[edit]

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. Please answer these questions to provide guidance for participants:

1. What is your name?
A: Sinebot.
2. What is your quest?
A: To make sure everyone signs their posts.
3. What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
A: I don't know what you mean - African or European?

You may ask optional questions below. There is a limit of ten questions per editor. Multi-part questions disguised as one question, with the intention of evading the limit, are disallowed. Follow-up questions relevant to questions you have already asked are allowed.

Additional question from Noyster
4. Given the power to block editors, what would be your policy towards blocking those who habitually forget to sign their posts or do so with the wrong number of ~'s?
A: The trouble is, when you block a user, they can't post anywhere but their talk page, which leaves me with very few opportunities to sign their posts. I think a more appropriate response would be to disable their signature functionality completely so they can never sign their posts, ever, even if they want to. The humiliation will be unbearable for them, and it will give me plenty of work to do in my bid for complete domination of Wikipedia. Muhahahaha! SineBot (talk)
Additional questions from 83.28.84.131
5. What's 9+10?
A: 19
6. What's 2+2-1?
A: 3
7. What's 48/2(9+3)?
A: 2
8. What's 71*20?
A: 1420
9. What's 210?
A: 1024
10. What's 9,801?
A: 99
11. What's 9-5*2?
A: -1
12. What's 7,000/14,000?
A: ½
13. What's 123*456*789?
A: 44,253,432
14. What's 12,34567,890?
A: I'm sorry, I don't have enough fingers to do that last one. Try asking my friend, MathBot. SineBot (talk)
Additional question from Linguist111
15. You see the following usernames at UAA. Which ones would you hardblock, which ones would you hardblock with talk page access revoked, and which ones would you globally lock?

As somebody who's not on the above list, I'm pissed I got overlooked. I never make any of the good lists. Surely there's something I've done that makes me at least conditionally block-worthy? Maybe I'm just not trying hard enough. -- RoySmith (talk) 14:00, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

One lone Question from L3X1
18 Do you get along with other bots?
A: I do hope that by saying "get along" you are not implying that I indulge in the depraved debauchery that Citation bot and BracketBot indulged in here. I have never read Lady Chatterley's Lover; for one thing that nice Mr Lawrence always remembers to sign his posts. SineBot (talk) 13:17, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

24 Any tips on how a bot jealous of your edit count might help join you? *cough cough* DeprecatedFixerBot is set to get around 200k edits (if all tasks are approved). Sorry, DeprecatedFixerBot threatened to break and never work again no matter what I did if I didn't add that. Dep even provided a script. At this point, I am seriously concerned about the level of artificial intelligence in that bot. Doesn't help TweetCiteBot just keeps chirping everywhere either...

  18. Support - over two million edits made, strong community work, especially with talk page participation. Content creation is somewhat weak, but I have seen worse. Amazing guideance for new editors at the Teahouse sways this one to support - previous unsigned comment courtesy of Stormy clouds (talk) 13:57, 1 April 2018 (UTC).

  5. Oppose. This discussion seems to have gone off on a weird tangent. -- RoySmith (talk) 10:45, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
@RoySmith: to go even further on a cotangent, I feel SineBot has taken up too much responsibility myself. We really should consider a CosineBot to make it easier to check the work.Cp678 (TCGE) 12:42, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
That seems like circular reasoning to me. -- RoySmith (talk) 12:55, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
@RoySmith: Circular reasoning can be circumvented by simply remodulating SineBot into SquareBot. Thus my arguments now have some edge to it.CyberP(talk) 15:24, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
  6. Oppose Per Hut 8.5 and RoySmith, I just can't cosine this. ~ Amory (utc) 11:11, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

  10. Why is 0 = 1? Cos 0 = 1. Therefore oppose. However, I would be willing to change my mind if this user does cosines as well, cos 0 = 1. epicgenius (talk) 13:19, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
But cosines are sooooo derivative. SineBot (talk) 14:20, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

  14. Oppose This bot doesn't know how to work out a sine. Pkbwcgs (talk) 15:12, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
I don't need to, I get my tailor to do it for me :-P SineBot (talk) 15:30, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
  15. Strong oppose: I have been very concerned about SineBot's disruptive editing behavior for a long time, in particular their persistent blatant disregard of WP:TPO ([1][2][3]). I find it extremely frustrating to have to manually revert their WP:PROXY edits for banned users every time since they are evidently incapable of being slower with their approach, but instead edits indiscriminately and creates a lot of mess. Instead of adminship, I am very close to proposing topic ban for SineBot on all edits relating to signature, broadly construed. Alex Shih (talk) 16:11, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
  16. Oppose for long history of sockpuppetry. The sockmaster is this user. Also, too prone to going off on tangents. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:42, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
CosineBot and TangentBot are both sockpuppets of this bot certainly. Pkbwcgs (talk) 18:46, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
Yes, there has been a wave of them. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:55, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
  17. Oppose I can't believe you'd even consider requesting for adminship with only 11 years of editing and barely 2 million edits. I strongly suggest closing this right away to avoid humiliation, and not coming back until at least 20 more years of editing and 3 million more edits. Haven't you seen the results of other RfA candidates? Regards, --SkyGazer 512 talk / contributions / subpages 19:01, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
Neutral
[edit]
  1. Awaiting responses to Questions 5 to 187, but it does surprise me to see this particular nominator sponsoring a candidate that has made only about 1% of its edits in mainspace, and many of those are not content creation but merely granting a spurious validity to mistaken edits by humans. Despite the high edit count I have yet to see evidence of a broad skills base: Noyster (talk), 10:54, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
  2. Neutral Sine Bot is very effective but will park here since sine bot seems to be a one-trick editor and needs more varied experience. Advise waiting at least until next April 1 to re-apply if more varied experience can be gained. Donner60 (talk) 11:00, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
