Atabek Shukurov An-Nasafi (born 1977) is a Uzbek-born British Islamic scholar, Teacher, Islamic Herbal Medicine Practitioner and Islamic Healer of Barlasi decend.


Shaykh Atabek was born in Kesh, Uzbekistan. He is a sayyid, a descendant of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad, through his grandson Hussein ibn Ali by way of Muhammad ibn Ja'far al-Sadiq. His family descends from Gorgan in northern Iran, where Muhammad ibn Ja'far al-Sadiq was persecuted and eventually martyred.


Shaykh Atabek began his study at the age of ten under local scholars, which included Shaykh Sayyid Karim Namangany and Shaykh Mohammed Jaan. He completed memorising the Qur'an and acquiring knowledge in Islamic sciences, including Aqeedah (Islamic theology), Fiqh (Islamic Jurispudence), Hadith (Prophetic tradition) and Ihsan (perfection and excellence), with ijazahs (certificate to teach). He particularly specialises in the fields of Aqeedah and Hanafi Fiqh[1].

At the age of 21 he enrolled on a four year Al-Ijaza Al-Alimiyya programme at the Takhassus Institute which had an affiliation with Al-Azhar University; Shaykh Atabek completed a portion of his studies at the University. He was also under the tutelage of as many as 80 teachers who resided in Uzbekistan, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Jordan.


Shaykh Atabek has authored many books in the sciences of Hadith and Usul Al-Fiqh in Arabic, some of which have now been introduced into the English language. A published book of the

Since 2007, Shaykh Atabek has been teaching at various organisations in the United Kingdom. As of January 2013, he co-founded Avicenna Academy and has since been offering a programme designed to graduate students as Islamic Scholars or Alims.

Personal life[edit]

Shaykh Atabek resides with his family in South Yorkshire, United Kingdom. He is married with three children.
