Suzie Ferguson is an Independent politician standing as a parlimentary candidate for Reading West (UK Parliament constituency) in the May 2015 General Election,[1]. She is notable as a published expert in the field of low carbon power generation, particularly in the area of Carbon Capture and Storage. Suzie has no prior political affiliation and is standing on a platform of anti-austerity and financial reform, reversing privatisation of the NHS, abolition of university tuition fees and promoting more direct democracy.
Personal Background
[edit]Suzie grew up on the edge of the New Forest with her parents, both teachers, and older borther. She attended the Romsey School and went on to do A Levels at Totton College, while simultaneously training in dance and musical theatre at Roynon Dance School in Woolston. After a gap year, which included gaining a Millenium Award for her voluntary work in Zambia, she studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Surrey in Guildford. Suzie graduated top in her class with a first class Masters' degree in Chemical Engineering and moved to Reading to join the graduate scheme at Foster Wheeler (now Amec Foster Wheeler).
Politics
[edit]Suzie announced her intention to stand for the 2015 General Election in July 2014 and has been working on her campaign ever since, most of which has been internet based. She has been using platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Wordpress to base her campaign because they do not incurr significant cost and because she was assigned to the Foster Wheeler Kentz Dubai office from February 2014 until early April 2015. Suzie has produced her own manifesto which includes a balance of her own views and research combined with ideas and requests of Reading West constituents.
Low Carbon Power Generation
[edit]During Suzie's 10 year career with Foster Wheeler, now Amec Foster Wheeler, she has worked on and led a wide range of projects and studies in the area of low carbon power generation, particularly in the area of carbon capture and storage, for the projects in the UK and worldwide, a significant proportion of this work was with the Energy Technologies Institute. She has presented technical papers at major international conferences such as PowerGen Europe and GasTech.
