Haruko Haruhara (ハルハラ・ハル子 Haruhara Haruko) is a fictional character from the anime mini series FLCL. She was conceived by director Kazuya Tsurumaki and designed by artist Yoshiyuki Sadamoto. She makes her first appearance in the first episode of the series. Haruko is introduced as a mysterious young girl who bludgeons fellow protaganist Naoto in the head with her bass guitar and shortly after sets up residence with his family as their live-in maid. As the story progresses, it is revealed that she is extraterrestrial space officer who has come to Earth in search of the being Atomsk who's powers she intends to obtain for herself at all cost.
Haruko has been featured in all six episodes of the FLCL anime, its novel and manga adaptations, and the follow-up audio dramas in soundtrack King of Pirates.
In the original Japanese Haruko was voiced by Mayumi Shintani. In the English dub by Synch-Point she was voiced by Kari Wahlgren. At the time of recording, Wahlgren was relativity new to ADR recording when she audition for the role. She amazed the staff as she managed to get into character without any additional help.

- Bertschy, Zac (February 20, 2002). "FLCL Interview with Marc Handler". Anime News Network.
Kari (Haruko) was absolutely new. She walked in to interview and did a terrific audition. We all looked at eachother afterwards and said "What has she done?" Nothing. "Who knew her?" no one. Kari was so precise and so clean, as far as her interpretation of the character. She was completely new to the field of ADR recording, too. She'd come in early to prepare and get it down, but as it turns out, she didn't need any additional help. She picked it up right away and provided us with a perfect Haruko. She was just terrific.
