Willie Rennie was press adviser to Fife Council's Liberal Democrat Opposition Group and a member of the Dunfermline Focus editorial team, working with Dunfermline's Lib Dem councillors on local issues.

As an MP his work on local issues includes: the campaigns against the £4 toll proposed for the Forth Bridge and for improvements to the cancer service at Queen Margaret Hospital.

He is a member of the Shadow Derfence team and was made Chair of the Parliamentary Campaigns team by Nick Clegg in December 2007 and also named as a Parliamentary Whip by Clegg in 2008.
