James "Groove" Chambers is a Kansas City born producer/rapper who currently resides in Atlanta, GA[1]. He has produced numerous tracks for Nappy Roots, Lil Mama, and a number of other contemporary rappers and artists.

Early Life[edit]

Groove was born in Kansas City, MO [2] and was a competitive track athlete with olympic hopes until tearing his quadricep in the meet before the state tournament [3]

Musical Career[edit]

Chambers' first big break came courtesy of his roommate who worked at a Sprint store in Atlanta, Georgia. When Nappy Roots' manager came into the store looking for a phone, Groove's roommate, who was a salesmen at the store, told Nappy Roots' manager that he had "a roommate who makes beats"[4]. Soon after, Groove began producing records with Nappy Roots, which ultimately resulted in him producing ten tracks off their debut album Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz, including their hit single Awnaw.

Groove continued his work with Nappy Roots on The Humdinger, their 2008 release. He produced two tracks off the album: "Tinted Up," and "Don't Stop." He will also be producing tracks off Nappy's upcoming 2010 release: The Pursuit of Nappyness.

Groove also produced Lil Mama's 2007 smash hit-single Lip Gloss, which reached number 10 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. The song was #56 on Rolling Stone's list of 100 best songs for 2007[5]

After wrapping up a tour with DMX, Bone Thugs N' Harmony & Tech 9, Chamber’s noticed the lack of Female MC's producing work in the modern hip hop market. After telling his partner and friend Mali Hunter to look out for fresh talent, she linked Groove up with Lil Mama, brining the young MC down to Atlanta for an impending partnership with Chambers. [6] Although originally producing the beat for Lip Gloss for himself, Groove decided to let Lil Mama rap over it.

Groove's debut single, "In The Bag," is already receiving radio play from influential DJ'sGreg Street (on V-103) and DJ Green Lantern, despite it's soft-launch status.

Chamber's has been described as a "star-maker" and someone who "has the unusual ability to help other artist find their way & not let the fact that he is known Underground as one of the dopest upcoming MC/Producer's in the rap world get in the way of him helping others" [7]. There are many up-and-coming MC's currently working with Groove, including Mikey Factz, B.o.B, and Pill.
