The banknote from which 'geeltje' gets its name.

A geeltje was at first a golden coin with variable value.Cite error: The opening <ref> tag is malformed or has a bad name (see the help page).

In the period of 1861-1909 there was a yellow-colored banknote worth 25 guilders which was popularly called 'geeltje'. This name for 25 guilders remained in use for a long time after 1909, although there was no longer any external connection with the note and in 1982 another yellow-colored banknote (50 guilders) came into circulation.
